Qué está incluido

30 reuniones en vivo
27 horas 30 minutos horas presenciales
Tarea
2-4 horas por semana. Students will be provided with individual practice assignments after each class. In addition, after most Thursday class meetings, student will be asked to complete a video lesson. The video will be of me teaching the lesson in the same format as I teach during class meetings. A You Tube link with the lesson will be provided.
Evaluación
Students will be informally assessed based on class participation. If parents would like a percentage score to be given at the end of the course, students will be required to turn in practice assignments and complete tests. Otherwise, tests will be optional and students will not be required to turn in practice assignments.

Grado de EE. UU. 9 - 12
This fifteen week Algebra 2 course will fulfill the second semester of a high school Algebra 2. The class will cover five units, as described below.

Radical Functions. Students will review simplifying radicals, as well as operations on radicals. Students will solve radical equations and graph radical functions.

Exponential & Logarithmic Functions: Students will graph exponential and logarithmic functions and solve exponential and logarithmic equations. Properties of logarithms and converting between logarithmic and exponential forms will also be covered. Students will model with exponential and logarithmic functions. Finally in this unit, students will apply their knowledge of logarithms and exponents to solve real-life problems involving compound interest and exponential growth and decay.

Rational Functions: We will start this unit by reviewing and expanding on simplifying and operations on rational functions. Then we will move into application, graphing, and solving. We will finish the unit with direct, inverse, joint variations, along with a combinations of these variations.

Sequences and Series: This unit will start with becoming familiar with the notation. Then we will dive into arithmetic and geometric sequences and series as well as infinite geometric series, and applications.

Trigonometry: This unit will start with a review of the pythagorean theorem, 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles, and the trig functions. We will also practice finding side and angle measure of right triangles using the trig functions, and finding side and angle measures of non-right triangle using the Law of Sines and Cosines. Then, we will move into graphing the trig functions. Finally, student will learn about the fundamental trig identities, the sum and differences of angle identities, and solving trig equations.

Background Knowledge: Students should have completed the first semester of Algebra 2, including units on Equations and Inequalities, Linear Functions, Parent Functions with Transformations, Quadratic Functions, and Polynomial Functions.

We meet twice a week for 55 minutes. When we meet together, I review previous material encouraging student participation, answer student questions, and teach new material. Students are encouraged to actively participate with via various methods, even anonymously if they are shy. Students are expected to complete practice assignments between classes. The only way to learn Algebra is to DO Algebra!

On most Thursdays, students may also be assigned an additional video lesson. The video lesson will be taught by me and posted in the classroom via a You Tube link. Completing one video lesson a week enables me to cover more material without additional meetings, and therefore additional cost to families.

I provide guided notes, practice assignments, and optional tests. Parents and students can also be provided with a percentage score for this class upon request.

Answers to practice assignments will be provided, and student correct their own assignments. During each class meeting, time will be devoted to reviewing practice assignments. Students will have the opportunity to request questions they want me to review in class, and the opportunity to ask questions on assignments.

Look at my reviews on Outschool to read about how other students enjoyed and learned from my Mathematics courses. And, please message me if you have any questions.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Michigan Certificado de Docencia en Matemáticas
I began teaching in 1978 by forcing my little brothers to "play school" during summer breaks. I began my paid teaching career in 1991 by teaching at a public high school in Michigan. In my over 30 years of experience teaching, I have also taught at a community college, homeschool co-ops, an alternative school, and a virtual online school. I retired from teaching high school math at a public high school in 2018. Now, I enjoy being home to homeschool my son, play with my grandchildren, and teach students online from all over the world.

I graduated from Western Michigan University in 1992 with a degree in Mathematics, History, and Education. In 2005, I earned a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove College in Detroit. I am certified to teach mathematics in the state of Michigan.

I believe that students learn by DOING! My class is a safe place to try, make mistakes, and try again. My classes I incorporate plenty opportunity for practice, and I provide meaningful individualized feedback for students. During class I encourage active participation from each student, and provide ways for shy students to participate in ways that make them feel comfortable. I will work with your student to help them be successful in math.

Please message me if I can help you meet your math educational goals.
