Over the course of five lessons, we will explore the five guidelines of improvisation, adding a new one each day of camp: *Accept the offer/ Say "Yes, and..." *Make choices/ Endow the scene with more information *Be active in your choices *Make your partner look good *Don't force the moment-- relax and have fun! Through guided discussion, group and individual acting exercises, improvised scenes, YouTube clips (see resources) and a series of scenes and games, actors will be encouraged to take chances and create theater in a low-risk, high-acceptance environment. Learners are encouraged to come prepared to participate and will also be asked to given the option to keep a log. Please wear loose-fitting clothing in layers so you can move and be comfortable. Most importantly, have fun and open yourself up to what *could* happen! What is a "low risk" environment? This means either we'll all be working collaboratively to create ensembles or create scenes that involve everyone with cameras on. On the final day, you'll get your taste of having an audience. In these final scenes, only the performers will have their cameras and mics on, the rest of us acting as the audience. Because of the nature of the class, it will only run with at least 3 students. This is also a "cameras on, please" class.
Metas de aprendizaje
Often, young actors are intimidated by the risk-taking of improvisation, but the observation and listening skills learned through improvisation help learners become stronger actors. They're helpful in real life situations as well!
The goal of this class is that actors will listen to and communicate with one another, and will say "Yes, and..." to the other actors sharing their stage.
