This is a slide based class where students will learn what a volcano is and the parts of it, in a vocabulary format. Then students will learn how volcanoes form by learning about Earth's layers and plate tectonics. There will be visual aids like pictures and even a video to really bring it home. The use of visual aids and simplistic phrases and words used should help any student get a good understanding, even if they have no prior experience. We go over the basics, no hard in-depth science is used.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will enhance their overall knowledge of our planet and the beasts that are volcanoes. With added info on Earth's layers and plate tectonics.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello everyone and welcome to Outschool! My name is Devin also known as Teacher Devin. Who loves science? Science has always been a subject that really made me get excited about the world around us. I have some classes over space, volcanoes, and magnetic fields. I would also love to make new classes based on the interest of my students, so don't be shy on letting me know what those are.
I also love traveling so very much. So I will be offering a series called Travel with Me, which will bring them on a real trip and cover other topics like food, attractions, and cultures! The other classes I teach are a animal class sprinkled with some Phonics, understanding auto insurance, and Pokémon related classes like a real world vs pokemon world and a board game, and lastly another game class with a super cool deck building/battling card class. The game classes are a great space where students can bust out of their shells and play with other kids. Learning life skills like, taking turns, mental agility, actions and consequences, being a Good Sport, etc.
A little more about me, I hold a BS in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English Online (TEO) certificate from International TEFL Academy.
I've been working with children for about 6 years, which began as a camp counselor in college for two summers. Then started tutoring junior and high school students for a couple years while finishing college. While I was working on my TEFL certificate I taught classrooms in Taiwan online, which was such an awesome experience getting to be apart of those students' lives. I have done extensive research on Japan as I was going to live there and teach ESL to local schools, but then Covid-19 hit and put the brakes on that.
To give a bit of my personal life, I love snowboarding, hiking, camping, tennis, soccer, video games, and traveling. I am learning Japanese but that is a slower process Haha! Thank you for your time and I can't wait to see you in class. If you enjoy the classes do me a favor and tell your friends about it as it helps me to be able to continue making these classes.
Scheduling:
_______________________
Please send me suggestions for new classes you'd like me to teach!
If I teach a class you want but not at a time that works for you, email me with times that work for you and I will try to accommodate it. I prefer this to the "request another time" feature, which is imprecise since it only allows parents to request blocks of 4 hours.
Classes below the minimum enrollment on the Class Listing page may be canceled with an option to reschedule or refund. I find that students get more out of classes when they have peers to interact and share ideas with.
Please refer to the Outschool FAQs for anything else! If you can't find an answer there, feel free to message me.
