In this one-time class, students will discover incredible facts about their brain and how it works! We will learn the vocabulary for the different sections of the brain and the role that each has in the body. Students will complete short challenges and games in order to model how that part of the brain works. For example, we will use our frontal lobe to create our own puzzle and then put it back together before the timer runs out! Or we will use our temporal lobe to identify different animal sounds. Next, students will learn shocking facts about other animal brains through an interactive guessing game! For instance, they will learn which animal has brains in their legs or which creepy creature can live without their brain. At the end of the lesson, students will create a neuron using playdough! This class is highly interactive and uses pictures, video clips, and hands-on activities to engage students. Students will have ample opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions, and participate in the games. The structure of the class is as follows: 2-3 minutes of introduction 30 - 35 minutes content 10 minutes of STEM activity

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hello! My name is Ms. Holly, and I am passionate about teaching! I have taught first grade in a public school setting for four years and then taught on Outschool for over a year! I am currently a stay-at-home mom. My vision for teaching is to instill a love of learning into every student and for them to know with confidence that they are valued and known.
As a child, my own curiosity for learning was sparked by an assortment of dinosaur toys, home science experiments, and field trips to the museum. This developed in me a desire to pursue science in the form of a BS in Biology from Texas A&M University. From there, I was called to become a teacher and received a MS degree in Education. I strive to meet learner's needs by including a variety of hands-on activities, movement, and student participation. I will also incorporate visuals, songs, and silly humor to engage students and help them to absorb the content.
When I am not teaching, I like to spend time with my husband of 9 years, my 3 year old bio son, and my 15 and 16 year old foster sons. I have a dog Jessie named after the character in Toy Story. I am interested in reading, crafting, crocheting, traveling, animals (especially sloths), Harry Potter, Disney, dinosaurs, and anything to do with science!
I am so pumped to meet your student! See you there!
