Letter and Sounds Review: It is appropriate for learners who are ready for preschool/kindergarten as well as ESL learners. 

Students will review the sounds and letters of the alphabet with an emphasis on the sounds the letter symbol makes. In order to read, the importance is the sound of the letter, not the naming of the letter. 

Students will be introduced to specific sounds each week. Using letter symbol cues and pictures, students will practice the sound. We will use play dough for each to make the letter symbol and practice the sound. Writing Strokes will be taught each day. 

A worksheet is provided for the student to support the play dough activity, pictures with beginning sound practice, and hand writing practice. Students will be exposed to oral language practice for phonemic awareness (recognition and play with sounds), fine motor skills to increase writing ability, and beginning phonics skills to read short vowel words. 

Digital books will be used for exposure to sounds in print, as well as teacher modeling reading for the students. 

***Students may join any week, the way the curriculum is structured, it does not build on previous weeks.***  This is a great class for students with no experience with letters and sounds. It is also a great review for those heading to kindergarten or first grade.****

***In order for me to assist your child while reading, I do require cameras to be turned on during class. I need to be able to see their mouths and how they are forming the sounds in words.*** 

Week 1: 
Letter Sound Chant (all sounds) 
Learns sounds associated with letter symbols: a,m,s, t
Listening for beginning sounds of words
Teacher Modeling segment of sounds c-a-t, blends for cat 
Fine Motor: play dough letters
Writing Strokes: circles and straight lines 

Week 2: 
Letter Sound Chant (all sounds) 
Learns sounds associated with letter symbols: p, f, i, n
Listening for beginning sounds of words
Teacher Modeling segment of sounds c-a-t, blends for cat
Teacher Modeling of building words and blending sounds with the sounds taught
Fine Motor: play dough letters
Writing Strokes: circles, diagonal lines, and wavy lines 

Week 3: 
Letter Sound Chant (all sounds) 
Learns sounds associated with letter symbols: nasal a, o, d, c 
Listening for ending sounds of words
Students segment sounds c-a-t, blends for cat
Students blend sounds to read words
Fine Motor: play dough letters
Writing Strokes: fish hooks and straight lines 

Week 4: 
Learns sounds associated with letter symbols: u, g, b, e
Listening for ending sounds of words
Students segment sounds c-a-t, blends for cat
Students blend sounds to read words
Fine Motor: play dough letters
Writing Strokes: circles, diagonal lines, and wavy lines 

Week 5: 
Letter Sound Chant (all sounds) 
Learns sounds associated with letter symbols: e, k, h, r 
Listening for middle sound in words
Students segment sounds c-a-t, blends for cat
Students blend sounds to read words
Fine Motor: play dough letters

Week 6:

Listening for middle sound in words
Students continue to segment sounds c-a-t, blends for cat

Week 7:

Learns sounds associated with letter symbols: x, qu, v, z
Listening for middle sound in words
Students continue to segment sounds c-a-t, blends for cat
Students continue to blend sounds to read words
Fine Motor: play dough letters

Week 8:
Review Week of all sounds
Review beginning, middle, and ending sounds
Review letter writing

I have taken all the tools I have learned over the years in the brick and mortar classroom, and chosen what I know works best for children to learn to read. While the over arching goal is for children to learn to read, the best part of my job is watching children fall in love with reading.
