Try this class for just $5 with coupon code BRIDGTRYSCI5 In this course, we will explore animals, weather, climate, and cool experiments! Get ready for fun activities that make science super exciting as you learn about the world around you and build awesome 3rd grade science skills! Students will explore life, physical, earth and space sciences, as well as engineering concepts, aligned with NGSS standards. This interactive and hands-on course fosters curiosity and builds a strong foundation in third grade science and third grade STEM skills. We will learn about animal groups, fossils, habitats and environments. We will learn about plant life cycles and animal life cycles. We will learn about traits and inheritance. We will learn about advantages of some animals over others. We will learn about forces, interactions, gravity, static electricity, pushes and pulls. We will learn about climate and weather. We will learn how to build a bridge and then build one together. The class is structured with a balance of interactive activities, hands-on experiments, and engaging lessons. My teaching style is dynamic and interactive, ensuring that young learners stay engaged and excited about science. I use a mix of games, colorful slides, short video clips, and discussions to make each lesson fun and easy to understand. Students will actively participate in discussions, share their ideas, and ask questions during the lessons. They'll also get plenty of opportunities to interact with me during our live sessions, where we'll work together on science activities and experiments designed to spark their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the topics covered. This course is designed to be interactive, with students encouraged to share their observations and discoveries. Whether we're exploring the characteristics of animals or creating a shelter for a frog, learners will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on way, making science both educational and enjoyable. Some parental guidance may be needed for this age for hands-on experiments in class and outside of class. There are a few lessons where we build or design in class, and then the experiment is done outside of class, such as testing the effects of sun or charting the weather. Please check the syllabus for more information on specific activities. Any printable PDFs will be posted in the classroom on the Sunday before class. Students can print these PDFs and bring them to class. Alternatively, students may bring a paper and pencil to class to complete the in-class activities. Required materials for the class include basic household supplies, such as tape, glue, markers, craft sticks, cardboard, toy cars, etc. A specific list of items to bring to class will be posted in the classroom posts at least one week before the next lesson. Students will not need to access any apps or websites outside of the Outschool classroom. Everything will be shared on screen through Zoom by the teacher.
Metas de aprendizaje
Understand Animal and Plant Life Cycles: Students will explore different animal groups, their habitats, and environmental interactions, as well as the life cycles of both plants and animals, understanding the stages of growth and development.
Investigate Traits and Inheritance: Students will learn about genetic traits and inheritance, exploring how characteristics are passed from parents to offspring and the advantages some animals have over others due to their genetic traits.

Lección 1:
Animal Groups (3-LS2-1)
This lesson uses the phenomenon of an enormous rookery of penguins to introduce the concept of animals living in groups. Students consider how animals live in groups, both large and small, by writing their ideas on sticky notes and sorting them on a chart or whiteboard.

Lección 2:
Animal Groups (3-LS2-1)
Students learn about animals living in groups, and identify animals in small and large groups. Students differentiate among animals that live on land, sea, and air, and they explore the interesting collective nouns used to describe certain groups.
Students extend their learning by describing an animal that lives on its own and suggest a reason as to why. They are then challenged to describe the types of groups in which humans live.

Lección 3:
Group Work (3-LS2-1)
This lesson uses the phenomenon of a murmuration of starlings to introduce the focus of the lesson, which is why animals live or move in groups. An arresting image and mesmerizing video show an enormous flock of birds moving almost as a single organism. Students are asked to describe what they think is happening and offer a reason for their thinking. Students pantomime moving as the flock and also acting as a predator.

Lección 4:
Group Work (3-LS2-1)
Students learn about more animals in groups and discuss why this behavior occurs. They modify ideas based on new information and research an animal to understand how group living aids survival, presenting their findings with evidence. Further, they explore vulnerabilities of separated animals and study ant colonies to validate the claim "There is safety in numbers!"
