Many schools in the United States have long used a summer break to divide the school year. In this class we'll learn the history of why summer break began in schools across America and how it has changed over time. As a summer vacation is not universal to all schools, we will discuss other types of school year calendars. Join me as we think about summer break in a new way and share our own educational experiences during the summer months. This class will use Google Slides, pictures and a trivia Kahoot review game to focus on the historical background of summer break. Through class discussion and sharing, learners will have a chance to explain their personal experiences during the summertime. Summer months can be used many different ways and education takes many different forms. By the end of this class, learners will have a new appreciation for the concept of summer vacation and new ideas on how to spend their time during the summer no matter the school year calendar.
