In this class, students will go on a scavenger hunt using a fascinating tool built to explore the scale of the universe on a micro and macro level. Students will learn to comprehend scales on the micro level (with the smallest item being the plank measurement) to the cosmic level (the observable universe is the last stop). It's fascinating to learn about all kind of popular (as well as less popular) locations and how they relate to one another in size. First, students will be directed to a technology tool on a scientific website found here: https://www.htwins.net/scale2/ They will learn how to use the tool efficiently and effectively in order to explore the universe. Then, students will be given a list of items to find. They will have to think through whether to zoom in (for items such as dust mites and quarks) or zoom out (for items such as the Cartwheel Galaxy). In addition, each item can be clicked on in order to learn more about it. I have done this scavenger hunt activity with numerous students already. I can verify they absolutely love it! They have fun while experiencing awe and wonder with this amazing technological tool. NOTE: Sometimes iPads/iPhones are glitchy and don't work well with this tool. Please join on a laptop or desktop computer for a smooth and fun experience. Book recommendation if your student loves this class: Astrophysics for Young People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson
