Welcome to Saxon Math 6/5 - in this 16 week long course students will complete the first half of the Saxon Math 6/5 book. As a former homeschooler, and a seasoned homeschool teacher, I have 20 years of experience utilising Saxon Math. I find it to be the most comprehensive math curriculum available and I am excited to offer it to the homeschool community on Outschool. If you are looking for inexpensive places to purchase the text books for this class, please message me and I will be happy to assist. Learners are expected to complete all mixed practice work, as well as the benchmark tests throughout our semester together. Mixed practice will not be graded, however students are more than welcome to submit problems for review. In 16 weeks/classes we will cover the follow material: - Tests 1-11 - Lessons 1-60 Week 1: Introduction and Lessons 1-4 Week 2: Lessons 5-8 Week 3: Lessons 9-12 Week 4: Lessons 13-16 Week 5: Lessons 17-20 Week 6: Lessons 21-24 Week 7: Lessons 25-28 Week 8: Lessons 29-32 Week 9: Lessons 33-36 Week 10: Lessons 37-40 Week 11: Lessons 41-44 Week 12: Lessons 45-48 Week 13: Lessons 49-52 Week 14: Lessons 53-56 Week 15: Lessons 56-60 Week 16: Lessons Flex Saxon Math Homeschool 6/5 teaches math with a spiral approach, which emphasizes incremental development of new material and continuous review of previously taught concepts. Building upon the principles taught in Saxon Math 5/4, the Saxon 65 textbook covers concepts such as: the order of operations; geometry and measurement; integers; divisibility concepts; ratios; statistics and probability; prime and composite numbers; patterns and sequences; and powers and roots. Students will specifically learn about making a multiplication table, adding/subtracting fractions with a common denominator, multiplying by multiples of 10 and 100, perimeter, simple probability, decimal parts of a meter, reciprocals, volume, square roots, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and more. Lessons contain a warm-up (with facts practice, mental math, & problem-solving exercises); introduction to the new concept, lesson practice exercises where the new skill is practiced, and mixed practice exercises, which includes 25-30 old and new problems Which grade is appropriate for my student? Saxon Math 5/4 is on-grade level for 4th grade and for a 5th grader who may need to take it at a slower pace.
