Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Nivel Beginner - Intermediate
This live course is designed for students that have Roblox Studio experience and want to learn the basics of the Roblox Lua programming language. Roblox Lua is the programming language used in Roblox games.

**** I offer over 30 different Roblox classes. The class you take first depends on your experience level with Roblox Studio (if any) and the things you want to learn and do. If you are unsure which Roblox class to take or where to start, it is better to ask first. Feel welcome to send me a message BEFORE enrolling****

It is NOT common for students to take this class first. Students must know how to use Roblox Studio before taking this class. Students typically take a class or two before this class. The more experience students have with Roblox Studio, the easier it is to learn how to code.

This is a coding class. Students must have experience using a windows/mac computer, roblox studio experience, and experience typing/keyboarding.

------------------------------------------------------------------
New students are welcome to join ANYTIME.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
In this class, students will dive deep into the fundamentals of the programming language used to create Roblox games. My goal is not just to teach you how to type code or follow tutorials, but to ensure you genuinely understand what you're doing every step of the way.

Copying and pasting code or using prebuilt stuff from the toolbox means students aren't actively learning anything. This class is about learning how to code.

It's easy to find code online, copy and paste it, or follow a tutorial to make something work. However, true mastery comes from knowing why and how the code functions. For example, do you know what a variable is and how to create one? Can you explain when to use a named function versus an anonymous one? These are essential concepts that every coder should grasp.

For example, every server script in Roblox Starts out with this code:
print("Hello world")
Almost every student I know can type that code, but what does it mean? What does the code do?
It uses a function. What is the function? What part of the code is a string? Do you know what a string is?
These are the kinds of questions many students cannot answer. their just typing code but don't truly understand what they are typing and why.

In this course, I’ll focus on building a solid foundation in programming. You’ll learn to think like a developer, making informed decisions and understanding the logic behind the code you write. Coding is more than just typing—it’s about understanding the principles that make your code work.

This is an ongoing class. This means the class runs for an indefinite amount of time. The information does NOT build over time. This allows for students to join the class ANYTIME and not be behind. Take the class for as long as you want. Start/end the class whenever you want. We do a different code each week, but the goal remains the same. The goal is for student to master the fundamentals of Roblox Lua.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each week, we practice a new code. The code may be different each week, but the TOPICS remain the same. Here are the topics taught every week:
Variables
Functions
Editing Properties with code

The coding examples are very basic. This is a beginner coding class. Intermediate and Advanced level topics are not taught in this class.

Supplemental coursework:
Optional prerecorded lessons will be posted in the Outschool classroom periodically to reinforce what was taught. There will also be additional coding lessons posted for students that would like extra practice on the topic. Completion of the material is completely optional.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roblox games are not played in this class. This class is about learning how to code.
Roblox games are not made in this class. Students are welcome to use the codes they learn to make a game, but that is not the purpose of this class. The class 100% about learning the basics of the coding language. The entire class time is spent learning about code.

Classroom environment:
This class encourages high engagement. I will ask questions about the code to confirm understanding. Students will be asking other students about the code. Students are able to communicate in the way they are most comfortable. Some students communicate better verbally, while some prefer to communicate through the zoom chat.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prerequisites:
Experience using Roblox Studio is REQUIRED for this class. This is a beginner CODING class for students with Roblox Studio experience. This class assumes you have experience making Roblox games and want to learn how to code. If you are unsure of the experience required for this class, please reach out BEFORE enrolling.

The computer language taught in this class is Roblox Lua. Coding experience is not required for this class. It is fine if students with coding experience join, but understand that some information will be review. Coding experience is not required, but students must know how to use Roblox Studio.

Math, Reading, and Writing/Typing prerequisites.
The math used in the coding examples in this class consist of a mix of basic math and pre-algebra.

Reading code and comments on the screen is an integral part of the course. The reading level in this course is similar to 6th and 7th grade.

Writing/Typing/Keyboarding
This is a coding class. The entire course is about coding. Typing is one of the most important skills for this class. Students must be able to identify letters, numbers, and punctuation. Before taking this class, students should have experience typing short essays/stories.
-----------------------------------------------
Setting up the Computer
Strongly suggest using two devices and a computer mouse for class. Roblox Studio is very challenging to use without a computer mouse

Hi!

My name is Miss Jennifer and I teach classes about Roblox/Roblox Studio and Blender.

I am also a Roblox Event Organizer and I enjoy teaching others about coding and video game design. I love video games and it is a joy to be able to teach what I love to do.

I don't just teach roblox stuff, I am a huge fan. When I am not teaching, I am on Roblox just like you. I play ERLC, Pls Donate, Pet Sim 99, Bladeball, Berry Ave., The Strongest Battlegrounds, and Bedwars. I am Zukojen on Roblox.

Before Outschool, I worked as a software developer for a hospital system. My primary coding languages are Lua/Roblox Lua, C++, Java, and C#.

I was born and raised in Westchester County, New York. I now live in Nevada (Pacific Standard Time Zone).

I have taught over 3,000 students here on Outschool how to code and create their own games. I hope to see you in my classes soon!
