In this captivating short-term class, we will delve into the remarkable stories of King George III, George Washington, and the extraordinary individuals who shaped the landscape of the American Revolution. In this immersive learning experience, we will trace the riveting journey from the early days of tension to the triumphant emergence of the United States of America. 

The class will commence with a compelling exploration of the intriguing parallels and distinctions between King George III and George Washington. Through a comparative analysis of their background, leadership styles, and roles in history, participants will unravel the complex relationship that defined the struggle for independence. 

Moving forward, the course will pivot to a captivating examination of the catalysts that ignited the flames of revolution. By spotlighting influential figures such as Paul Revere, John Adams, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Ethan Allen, Benedict Arnold, Thomas Jefferson, and Alexander Hamilton, among others, students will gain a deep appreciation for the diverse voices that pushed the movement toward freedom and self-governance. 

As the journey unfolds, the class will chart the unfolding drama of pivotal battles that shaped the course of the conflict, from the legendary stand at Lexington and Concord to the strategic maneuvers of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Participants will trace the daring exploits of Henry Knox as he transported cannons to fortify the American cause and witness the dramatic turnaround at the NBattle of Trenton that breathed new life into the revolutionary spirit.

The class will then turn its focus to the critical points in the war, including the decisive battles of Saratoga and the British occupation of Philadelphia. Through a detailed exploration of these key moments, students will gain a nuanced understanding of the ebb and flow of the conflict and the resilience that sustained the American cause. 

Finally, the class will culminate in a poignant examination of the siege of Yorkton, the last major battle of the American Revolution, and the monumental Declaration of Independence that solidified the birth of the United States of America. By connecting the threads of history, participants will witness the convergence of events that transformed a collection of colonies into a unified nation. 

Additionally, this class will shed light on the stark differences between the British Army and the Continental Army, offering a poignant exploration of the hardships endured by soldiers on both sides. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the immense challenges faced by the revolutionary forces, including the scarcity of essential supplies such as food and clothing and the remarkable resilience displayed in the face of such adversity. Moreover, the class will examine the pivotal impact of the Hessian soldiers' decisions to abandon their posts, delving into the far-reaching consequences of the critical turning point on the course of the war. Through this lens, students will gain a profound appreciation for the human dimension of conflict and the unwavering determination that sustained the revolutionary cause amidst formidable odds.

I hold a BA in History with minors in Women's Studies and Humanities as well as an MA in History.  My area of specialty is women's history (My studies also include the history of  Women of Color and Indigenous Women), and American (United States) history from the 1560s to 1960s. I recently completed continuing education courses covering the American Civil War. Topics of study included the lives of enslaved people and the many different ways the Civil War affected their lives, people of color and women and their role in the Civil War, and the enforcement of freedom of the enslaved.
