What will be taught? Students will learn the essential skills for conducting academic research, creating annotated bibliographies, and drafting and revising a research paper. Lessons will also cover MLA and APA citation formats. What topics will this course cover? The class covers the following topics: finding credible sources, writing strong research questions, creating and formatting annotated bibliographies, drafting a research paper, revising and editing for clarity, and properly formatting citations in MLA and APA styles. How is this class structured? This is a self-paced class with pre-recorded lessons broken into three parts. Each part includes video lessons, guided exercises, and opportunities for students to apply their knowledge through mini assignments. The final project involves submitting a fully revised research paper. How is the class taught? Lessons are taught through pre-recorded videos, slides, and visual aids. Students will complete hands-on exercises, such as writing research questions, annotating sources, and drafting sections of their paper, to reinforce learning. Clear instructions are provided for each step. What's my teaching style? My teaching style is approachable, structured, and supportive. I break complex topics into smaller, manageable steps and encourage students to practice their skills with guided exercises. Feedback opportunities help students refine their work independently. How much will learners get to interact with you? Since this is a self-paced class, direct interaction is limited. However, students can submit drafts or questions for feedback, which I will provide within a set timeframe (typically 24-36 hours) to help them progress with their research papers.

I started my path to teaching in college when I volunteered with AmeriCorps. I went on to teach in traditional public schools after I completed my M.Ed. and received my teaching license, but I quickly learned the school environment was not the ideal setting for myself or my child. That is when I transitioned to homeschooling and teaching online. I have been teaching writing course for fifteen years. My primary objective in each class is to help the learners feel comfortable and gain confidence in their writing.
All Academy teachers have experience and background in providing writing instruction with continued professional development and training.
Please communicate with the instructor if accommodations or modifications are needed. Academy teachers are trained and educated on how to meet unique learning needs and classes can be adjusted as needed.
