Week 1Lesson 1Welcome Recorder NinjasIn this lesson we will learn all the basics of the recorder. We will learn about hand placement, using air, and making a sound. We will play our first three notes G, A, and B. We will start the song "Hot Cross Buns" by ear.Week 2Lesson 2Hot Cross BunsIn this lesson we will review all the basics we learned in week one and learn the song "Hot Cross Buns." We will also connect what we learned last week to written music.Week 3Lesson 3White BeltIn this lesson we will review Hot Cross Buns. We will have the chance to play "Hot Cross Buns" for each other and earn the white belt.Week 4Lesson 4Gently SleepIn this lesson we will apply everything we know to learning a new song, "Gently Sleep." In addition we will focus on how to use our air to get a great sound on our recorders.Week 5Lesson 5Yellow BeltIn this lesson we will review the song "Gently Sleep," play for each other, and earn our yellow belts.Week 6Lesson 6Merrily We Roll AlongUsing all the skills we have learned so far we will work on decoding the music to "Merrily We Roll Along" in this lesson.Week 7Lesson 7Orange BeltIn this lesson we will review everything we learned in Recorder Ninja Level 1. Students will also play "Merrily We Roll Along" and earn their orange belts.
- Students will improve their fundamental music skills using the hands on experience of learning to play the recorder.
An experienced K-6th grade music teacher, Dr. Brenda Buys holds a doctorate in music arts. She has been teaching music for over 20 years. She is also a performing artist who plays in chamber groups and orchestras.

Recorder Karate 1 Student Book with Yamaha 3-Piece Ivory Recorder - cost approx. $9. This can be purchused at Music K-8 online. Other recorders are acceptible but Yamaha is recomended. You may also wish to purchese the Recorder reward belts Essential Nine pack of 1 belt each for approx. $2.50
