Charla real: ¿Estoy en la zona? Nivel 2 para adolescentes
Experiencia de clase
Learners will interact with the instructor and each other to learn how to keep their conversational skills "in the zone" in order to build communication confidence and peer relationships. I am keeping enrollment small on purpose so that students have maximal chances to practice their emerging skills. We'll discuss certain social situations, practice scripts, problem-solve, troubleshoot, and discuss. Because learners excel differently, multiple modalities are used: text, photos, drawings,...
- Learners will improve their communication skills by learning to be "in the zone" with their conversations. They'll learn the difference between thinking and saying, using clues to determine if their conversational partner is acting positively or negatively to their communication, and how to ask questions as a start to true turn-taking. And, of course, there will be conversational practice in EVERY class!
Besides teaching on Outschool (and being an Outschool parent since 2019), I am a speech-language pathologist with an M.A. in Education (Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology) and a B.A. in Linguistics, with an emphasis in Sociolinguistics (in other words, how people use language socially, in interactions, and in popular culture). I have worked with students from one end of the autistic spectrum to the other, as well as non-ASD students who have pragmatic language issues and social language difficulties. I have been in practice as an SLP since 2003, and have owned my own private practice since 2006. I have hundreds of continuing education hours in topics related to speech-language pathology, social language, reading, dyslexia, language disorders, stuttering, traumatic brain injury, psychology, executive functioning, autism, articulation, vocal hygiene, and phonology, among others areas. I am also twice-exceptional and neurodiverse, and the parent of multiple twice-exceptional and neurodiverse children.
