This class is an introduction to bettering your social interaction skills for improved/more positive interactions with peers and adults. Kids with social language and pragmatic issues may not even realize that they're not "in the zone" - and therefore do not understand why they are getting negative reactions from their peers. We'll talk about being "in the zone", give examples, and discuss real-life situations. The class consists of 35 minutes of lecture/class participation, plus Q&A/discussion afterward, time permitting. My teaching style is animated, engaged, real, empathetic, and warm. Because learners excel in different ways, multiple modalities are used: text, photos, line drawings, spoken language, and gestures. All learners welcome - neurotypical, neurodiverse, all gender expressions, religious/secular.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn what it means to be in or out of the zone (of expected social behaviors). They will learn to recognize when they are doing something unexpected, which might elicit a negative response, and when they are doing what is socially expected, which would be more likely to elicit a positive response from others.
