This class will cover a full year of third-grade reading curriculum-based on common core standards. Learners are welcome to join the class at any time. Although some class content will build from the previous week, it will not prevent the new learner from understanding the concept we are covering during the current week. I am an experienced teacher with nine years of teaching experience. Over the past six years, I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade at my local public school, teaching all subject areas(reading, writing, math, phonics, science, and social studies). I am excited to learn with your learner this school year! I believe in meeting learners at their current academic level and providing an encouraging learning environment to facilitate meaningful learning. Learners should come to class with paper and pencil or whiteboard. I encourage discussions and lots of interaction but also understand some learners prefer to refrain from participating and enjoy listening to class discussions. Class will include a mini-lesson and group practice. The mini-lesson will include the new teaching point, which the teacher will demonstrate using interactive slides. **This is an ongoing class, so join anytime, as new concepts will not depend on previous classes. Although some weeks' content will build from the previous week, it will not prevent the new learner from understanding the concept we are covering during the current week.** ⭐⭐⭐I cannot share class recordings as per agreements with publishers, who have granted permission to use specific materials under the condition that videos are not posted. Your understanding and cooperation in respecting these agreements are greatly appreciated. Additionally, please note that refunds will not be issued for missed classes. Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our shared learning experience. ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐ It is helpful if learners can access the chat and mute and unmute themselves. ⭐⭐⭐ Week 1: Reading: Previewing and predicting Phonics: Consonant blends Week 2: Sept. 8 Reading: Learning about characters and Retelling Phonics: R controlled Week 3: Sept. 15 Reading: Noticing how characters change and how to bring characters to life Phonics: Vowel digraphs Week 4: Sept 22 Reading: Discovering lessons in our story Phonics: Soft and hard C and G Week 5: Sept. 29 Reading: Read longer phrases by scooping words and using more than one reading strategy at a time Phonics: Syllable patterns Week 6: Oct. 6 Reading: Context Clues Phonics: Inflectional ending -ed Week 7: Oct. 13 Reading: Word Solving Strategies Phonics: Silent letters Week 8: Oct. 20 Reading: Notice Similarities in Characters Phonics: Trigraphs Week 9: Oct. 27 Reading: Understand Characters Phonics: ew, ue Week 10: Nov. 3 Reading: Use What I know About Characters to Make Predictions Phonics: ie, ei Week 11: Nov. 10 Reading:: Pay Attention to Relationships Between Characters Phonics: oi, oy Week 12: Nov. 17 Reading: Asking Questions Phonics: aw, au Week 13: Nov. 24 Reading: Life Lesson Phonics: Schwa Week 14: Dec. 1 Reading: Book Study Phonics: ou, ow Week 15: Dec. 8 Reading: Using context to build knowledge of unknown words and being a flexible word solver Phonics: dge, ge Week 17: Dec. 15 Reading: Stop and Jot Phonics: adding ing to VVC words Week 18: Dec 29 Reading: Main Idea Phonics: Ending blends Week 19: Jan. 5 Reading: Authors Purpose Phonics: Unusual past tense words Week 20: Jan. 12 Reading: How to be a flexible word solver Phonics: Plural endings -es, s Week 21: Jan. 19 Reading: Retelling Phonics: Unusual plurals Week 22: Jan. 26 Reading: Stop and Jot Phonics: Inflected endings +y Week 23: Feb. 2 Reading: Learning about characters and character traits Phonics: Compound Words Week 24: Feb. 9 Reading: Determine How the Author Paints a Picture With Words Phonics: VCV and VCCV patterns Week 25: Feb. 16 Reading: Finding Precise Words in the Story Phonics: ee and ea Week 26: Feb. 23 Reading: Using meaning to read fluently and reading at a just right speed Phonics: Long A patterns within in syllables Week 27: March 2 Reading: Recognizing literary language and understanding comparisons Phonics: Long I patterns within in syllables Week 28: March 9 Reading: Noticing when authors play with words and focusing on special language Phonics: Long O patterns within in syllables Week 29: March 17 Reading: Holding on to stories even when books are long and staying on track when books get tricky Phonics: Long U patterns within in syllables Week 30: March 30 Reading: Main Idea Phonics: Long and short E patterns within in syllables Week 31: April 6 Reading: Retelling longer books Phonics: vowel teams aw, al, au Week 32 April 13 Reading: Story elements Phonics: final syllable -le Week 33 April 20 Reading: Book Talk Phonics: Synonyms Week 34 April 27 Reading: Book Talk Phonics: Antonym Week 35 May 4 Reading: Book Talk Phonics: Homophones Week 36 May 11 Reading: Book Talk Phonics: final syllable -y, -ey, -ie Week 37 May 18 Reading: Book Talk Phonics: Word Puzzles Week 38 May 25 Reading: Main idea Phonics: End of year review
