Shakespeare's plays were written and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of economic or educational background. This is an ongoing class serves to demystify Shakespeare with the intent of students finding both enjoyment and confidence while engaging with his works. This class will meet 1 hour once a week. Every week will feature a new Shakespeare scene pulled from one of his 37 plays - Comedies, Tragedies, or Histories. The first part of the class will be focused on the historical context of when the play was written and perfomed. The second part of the class will include guidance on HOW to read Shakespeare. The third part of the class will be a brief synopsis of the play up to the scene we are reading. The fourth part is a quiet read through of the play for general understanding of the scene and to address any questions students might have (vocabulary, interactions, etc). The fifth part will be multiple readings of the scene with changes in reader parts. The sixth and final part of the class is a final discussion about anything regarding the scene that students want to talk about. We will be using Folger's Shakespeare Library's free repository for downloading and printing the scenes for each week. Please know that any and every Book Club class that I teach can be make into a private homeschool club during school hours. Please ask about more information!
