In this class, children will learn essential early literacy skills, including recognizing and writing their names, identifying uppercase and lowercase letters, understanding rhyming words, and developing an interest in reading and storytelling.

What topics will you cover?

The importance of holding and paging through books correctly
Name recognition and writing
Uppercase and lowercase letter identification
Rhyming words and their patterns
Maintaining focus during short stories
Expressing thoughts and feelings about stories

 I will use a variety of teaching methods, including storytelling, visuals, and hands-on activities, to create a dynamic learning environment. Each class will include interactive elements to keep students engaged and foster a love for reading. My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and interactive. I believe in creating a supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable participating and expressing themselves. I adapt lessons based on student interests and needs, ensuring everyone can thrive.

Students will have ample opportunities to interact with me and their peers through:

Storytelling and Discussions: Engaging questions and conversations about the story to encourage participation.
Games and Activities: Fun, interactive games that reinforce literacy skills, promoting collaboration and social skills.
Show-and-Tell: Opportunities for children to share their favorite books and ideas.
This class aims to provide a comprehensive and enjoyable learning experience that prepares children for kindergarten while fostering their love for reading and storytelling!

Understanding Book Mechanics: Students will demonstrate how to hold a book properly and page through it, understanding the basic structure of a story (beginning, middle, and end).

Introduction to Books and Storytime
 Introduction to different types of books (picture books, storybooks).
Read a short story together, focusing on how to follow along.
Discuss the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

 Alphabet song and letter recognition games.
Play a letter scavenger hunt in their home or classroom.
Practice tracing letters on paper.

 Read a new short story, pausing to ask questions and discuss feelings about the story.
Engage in a group activity related to the story (e.g., drawing a favorite character).
