Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 7
Beginner - Advanced Level
Welcome to an ongoing tutoring class designed to foster fluent reading skills in your student. Reading fluency involves complex skills such as phonological awareness, phoneme segmentation, blending, recognizing sight words, and isolation. These skills form a stepping stone for proficient reading, and addressing any learning blocks in these areas is pivotal to preventing future reading difficulties. Based on my experience with struggling readers, many challenges often arise from issues related to these foundational skills.

In this course, my goal is to establish a strong foundation for students to become fluent readers and improve their reading comprehension. The course begins with a formal reading fluency diagnostic to assess individual needs. Using the diagnostic results, I'll create a personalized plan to meet each student's requirements.

**Struggling Readers:**

This course is not only for struggling readers but also for those with learning exceptionalities, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, reading anxiety, English language learners, and other challenges. The primary focus is on building and strengthening the foundational aspects of successful reading. Students will engage in evidence-based reading strategies, including blending exercises, short and long vowel practice, digraph and trigraph practice, CVC words, spelling, sentence composition, and fluency exercises. Custom-tailored presentations will also ignite students' interest and encourage active participation.

The class heavily integrates the Orton-Gillingham methodology, which is language-based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative, and cognitive. The McGraw Hill Reading Intervention Tier I, II, and III program further enhances the curriculum, supporting reading fluency and spelling. Every student will receive the most suitable program and topics aligned with their needs. An initial assessment during the first class ensures accurate program placement. For students dealing with test anxiety, alternative assessment methods are available upon prior notice.
