Detectives de lectura: cómo dominar el arte de la comprensión lectora

Whether your child needs help with reading comprehension, or is struggling with state reading assessments, this class is designed with them in mind. In this class, I will teach students the exact steps that have helped students to be able to sift through various text to locate and find information needed in order to answer various types of comprehension questions that include multiple choice and extended response answers.
Each class will begin with an introduction to the topic we are reading about. Learners will be asked to share what they already know about that topic to help build background knowledge and connect to prior understanding. After that, we will read each question in the passage. Learners will be taught what a key word is and then asked to determine what the key word is in the question. From there, I will show learners how to skim the text to find the key word. Then we will use the information around the key word to answer the question. For any extended response questions, learners will be taught how to answer the question in complete sentences using part of the question stem.
We will alternate each week between fiction and nonfiction passages.
