Comprensión lectora, vocabulario y fluidez (tercer y cuarto grado)

This class will take readers through fiction and nonfiction passages to work on their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Passages will be at about a third grade/fourth grade reading level. During our time together in class, we will begin each class by sharing any personal connections/prior knowledge to the topic of the day.  At the beginning of each week, I will post on the classroom page what the topic/story is for the week. We will then take turns reading the passage together (for those comfortable reading). All passages will be provided in printable form at the beginning of each week on the classroom page.  If you are unable to print the page, it will also be shown in class, but please bring along paper/pencil to use for responses.  Students will be supported as we use our decoding skills and fluency together to ensure accuracy of the passage.  Students will then answer questions about what we read together.  
Students will write out responses with the support of the teacher.  (If your child needs extra support with writing, please let me know so I can make any necessary recommendations or accommodations!)  The reading comprehension questions will cover a variety of topics, such as characters, setting, vocabulary, problem, solution, plot, cause/effect, making connections, synonyms/antonyms, showing evidence, and more!  Students are welcome to re-read the story after class to reinforce the skills we worked on in class and to help with their fluency.  Fluency is the ability for someone to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. In order to understand what they read, children must be able to read fluently whether they are reading aloud or silently.  Feel free to join us at anytime as lessons are new each week!
