Tarea

4+ horas por semana. We will sometimes have the students read outside of classes for homework time with any reading we do not do in class. Also there will be worksheets sent out periodically during the class. We also do fun projects based on the reading of the books. These are optional but are fun to take part in.

Evaluación

After every book there will be an end of the book quiz aloud in class. Also we review what the students have read before every class.

Your child will read in class every week twice a week(This is a reading class). We will have some fun activities in class; including project time(after reading and discussion time, this is not the core of our class, reading is), PowerPoint slide presentations(where I am sharing the books and maybe talking about the books or subjects involving the books), and lots of discussion on the books through summary and also talking about the books in general. Also there may be game time if the students want this occasionally, but this is not to be expected every week and it is based on the parent and student opinions.
The only knowledge your child will need is how to read the books, or if you have a differently challenged child (ASD, Asperger's, etc.) I can work with you and your child in order to get what your child needs out of the class. I will have a few handouts for the children regarding the books and also just for fun. The homework in this class: will be to do your reading, do your handouts, and any other reading activities your child may need to better strengthen their reading skills.

Also the books read every week time table will vary depending on how fast the students can read in and out of class. So we may have a little longer say 3-4 weeks on some books and less on others 1-2 weeks if it is a shorter book. There will be 2 options for reading. I have the adult version(unabridged) and the kid version which is shorter and abridged for some of the books. Not every book has the kid version(shorter and abridged) so we will go over that before we read each book. Also we do not have to start with the first book on the list, we can change that up;)

There are some sensitive topics in the books as they were written over 100 hundred years ago. If you are uncomfortable with any of the books or subjects that they cover, this class is not for your student.

All materials like quizzes are provided via word docs, pdf files, etc. if your student misses class time dur to illness, appointments, etc. Your student must have the books for out of class reading.

I love to read and want all kids to be able to read at least twice a week. Kids love to read and they should also be able to choose their own books. I am a patient and kind teacher and never rush kids when they are reading. Some of these books will be in old English as they are classics. I will have some kid friendly versions of these classic books for in- reading time and also provide the links for these versions for outside of class reading time. If you prefer your student to read the classic versions I can provide the links for those book copies as well.
