1-2 horas por semana. Each class we will begin reading, students will finish the reading, usually two chapters, about 10-18 pages. Homework will include reading and completing comprehension, literary device questions as well as vocabulary. A book review will be due at the end of the course, much of this will be discussed in class. Please submit homework prior to the start of the next class-for example if assigned Monday, submit before the Wednesday class. Preferred one day, yet understand we are teaching worldwide so prior to the start of class is ok. Cannot submit after the class as we are reviewing homework. Please let me know of extenuating situations.Evaluación

This course was created to enhance your English critical reading skills and to cultivate an appreciation for various genres. We will begin with an introduction to novels and a thorough exploration of literary elements. Students will learn to read to discover overarching messages, to learn how to use vocabulary well and to write responses to literature. Major assessments consist of individual participation during discussions, homework, using novels to provide contextual evidence for answers and inquiries and written assignments/projects. Each class, students will be given a homework assignment to apply the literary elements as we progress through our readings. Students are encouraged to get involved and share their voices during lessons! Information will be shared on slides, through discussion, and on a provided homework worksheet. Welcome/Icebreaker related to the story 5-8 minutes Review/Discussion of homework 8-10 Description of lesson, for example literary devices, citing work, point of view or author's purpose 15-20 minutes Reading aloud together 20-25 minutes Review/Homework 4-8 minutes Class One: About the author, predicting, setting, new vocabulary, begin reading chapter 1 together Class Two: Review chapter 1, main characters, character traits, and begin reading chapter 2-3 Class Three: Review homework, review basic punctuation, answering in complete sentences, and fluency. Read chapters 4-5 Class Four: Review homework, new vocabulary words, and discuss conflicts-internal and external. Read chapters 6-8 Class Five: Review homework, new vocabulary, and discuss theme. Read chapters 9-11 Class Six: Review homework, new vocabulary words, and protagonist/antagonist. Read chapters 12-13 Class Seven: Review homework, new vocabulary, match vocabulary and character quotes. Read chapters 14-16 Class Eight: Review homework, making inferences, and new vocabulary. Read chapters 17-19 Class Nine: Review homework, citing evidence, and new vocabulary. Read chapters 20-22 Class Ten: Book Review, Review 5 elements of plot-plot diagram, and playing Charlotte's Web Jeopardy Homework will include reading and completing comprehension, literary device questions as well as vocabulary. A book review will be due at the end of the course, much of this will be discussed in class. *We do offer a 3 minute break for a stretch, water or restroom break during the class*

We are discussing literature, students will be asked about story events, and provide self to text connections. Questions include, what would you do as that character? She he have done that or is there a better way to handle the situation. The story includes discussion of killing and eating a pig and the death of a character.

Please have a copy of Charlotte's Web. I can send a print out of the story if needed. I will send homework after each class. Students will need a pen or pencil.

I taught Reading for two years at a college preparatory academy. I served the Director of Ancillary Services tasked with planning and executing summer and winter camps at a PK-12 school. I hold a degree in Psychology and an MBA, a 150-hour master teacher certificate for teaching English as a second language courses and have served as a college counselor for almost 7 years advising students and families on the college acceptance process. I have taught middle school, have been an academic administrator in a Pre-K 12 school and was a founding director of a Learning Center. I have taught online for 3 years.
