In this one-time class, learners will be assessed by an experienced teacher, tutor, and Wilson Reading certified instructor in phonics, fluency, and comprehension. Learners will be assessed on their phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills during this 40-minute course. Depending on the age/grade/level of the learner, their assessment may be phonics or reading fluency/comprehension heavy. This course is an excellent way for the parent to get an idea of where their child stands compared to their age and grade level and will be able to use the assessment results to provide support for any learning gaps. After the assessment, the parent will receive their child's results and a summary and recommended learning plan going forward. Phonics assessment for up to 3rd grade will include onset and rime, cvc words, blends, cvce words, blends, digraphs, vowel digraphs, and more. Phonics assessment for 3rd grade and above will include open and closed syllables, inflected endings, vowel teams, schwas, prefixes, suffixes, and more. All learners will receive their fluency rate (words per minute) and their reading level based on the Fountas and Pinnell levels (can be converted to Lexile) as well as national percentiles (based on grade). Questions at the end will gauge their level of understanding. All passages are leveled readers that are from, but are not limited to: Readworks, Reading is Fundamental, and Reading A-Z. I will assess students based on their grade level. Assessment Format - Introduction - Phonics/Phonemic Awareness - Fluency (word per minute rate recorded) - Comprehension (student will be asked questions about what was read) - Vocabulary - depending on the age/grade - student will define words from text and apply to real life - Within 24-48 hours, parent will receive report about student performance, norms, and recommended steps/learning plan going forward. *****Parents, please note: This assessment can not be used to diagnose learners with reading difficulties or evaluations for special education services.*******
