Unlock the Magic: A Reading Skills Book Club is a fun, interactive class where young readers explore key comprehension strategies using books of their choice. There is no assigned reading—learners bring whatever they’re reading and apply new skills each week through engaging lessons, creative projects, and group discussions.

Each week focuses on a specific reading skill such as identifying the main idea, analyzing characters, exploring setting, making text connections, making predictions and inferences, understanding plot structure, and examining author’s purpose. These skills are taught through short, teacher-led mini-lessons followed by interactive activities like scavenger hunts, visual collages, story maps, and character growth charts.

The class is structured to promote participation and creativity, with time for learners to share insights, work collaboratively, and reflect on how each strategy helped them understand their book more deeply. My teaching style is supportive, inclusive, and discussion-based, encouraging all learners to engage at their own pace and comfort level.

Learners interact regularly with me and one another through group work, guided questions, and reflection activities. New students are welcomed at any point and provided with a quick, supportive introduction to catch up on past skills.

By the end of the course, learners will have built a toolbox of reading strategies they can confidently apply to any book, helping them grow into stronger, more thoughtful readers.
