Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 3 - 6
In this ongoing course, students will practice their creative writing through engaging discussion and writing prompts. Each week, the teacher will provide a different fun writing prompt designed to help students tap into their creativity and spark thoughtful discussion. Prompts are just a jumping-off point; students always have complete control over their work and can take it in any direction they choose!

Before class begins, students are encouraged to read the prompt and spend about 15-20 minutes writing a response. This draft will be what they bring to class. The lesson will open with a short warm-up question to begin discussion and also teach some writing concepts. Next, the class will practice collective brainstorming to give students ideas and a chance to engage with the prompt. Lastly, students will have time to share their writing if they choose or to continue working on it as a draft. Students can submit their writing to the teacher for more detailed feedback during or after the lesson. However, this is always optional.

The purpose of this club is to give students community and structure to improve their writing. We will not focus on formal writing instruction, but rather inspiration and ideas. Students are welcome at any experience or confidence level, and the teacher will adapt to meet student needs.

The class environment will be interactive and casual. Students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas! I can't wait to hear what you're working on.

Class schedule:
Week of September 9
Prompt: Imagine a giant box is delivered to your front doorstep with your name on it. What’s inside and what happens when you open it?
Warm-up: how does the unknown contribute to your story?

Week of September 16
Prompt: Write a story about what it would be like to climb to the very top of the highest mountain in the world.
Warm-up: How would it feel to achieve something like that?

Week of September 23
Prompt: Imagine that dogs take over the world. What do they make the humans do?
Warm-up: would dogs be friendly masters?

Week of September 30
Prompt: You are a mad scientist and have invented a new vegetable. What is it called? What does it look like? What does it taste like?
Warm-up: can you imagine a totally new food? Or would you make a combination of things that already exist?

Almost one year on Outschool and loving every minute of it!

I am passionate about building authentic positive relationships with my students. By modeling healthy relationships and creating a safe place for them to flourish, I hope to give my students life skills beyond the content I teach. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with other students, practicing the skills of empathy in the context of a caring community.

My husband and I have two daughters and two dogs. I love to read, bake, and knit (but not all at the same time!). I can't wait to see you in class!
