Students are highly encouraged to practice writing characters on their own at home using the writing practice sheets posted in the classroom to get the maximum benefits of this course.Experiencia de clase
In this 10-week course, we will learn the basics of the Japanese Hiragana alphabet. We will also learn how to read and write basic sounds and practice writing simple vocabulary words. We will learn only 5 new characters per class, so we can practice each character slowly and carefully and build your child's confidence in writing in a new language. We will start each class with a review of the characters we learned in the previous class with a fun matching game to practice character recognition and recall. Then we will learn 5 new letter sounds one by one, and we will practice using them in simple example vocabulary words. We will practice writing characters using the correct pen stroke order, and end each class with a quick review and a short quiz. Each class will have a unique game, song, or review activity to help make learning how to read and write Japanese fun! Each class will be accompanied by a printable writing practice sheet so that students can practice writing characters on their own at home, and we will review last week’s characters in the following class to allow students maximum opportunity to practice and retain the new characters they have learned. I understand that learning to write in a new language can be overwhelming at first, so our pace will be slow and careful with plenty of review so students can learn at their own pace and build confidence as their reading and writing skills build and grow! Week One: Vowel Sounds (あ、い、え、お、う) Week Two: K Sounds (か、き、け、こ、く) Week Three: S Sounds (さ、し、せ、そ、す) Week Four: T Sounds (た、ち、て、と、つ) Week Five: N Sounds (な、に、ね、の、ぬ) Week Six: H Sounds (は、ひ、へ、ほ、ふ) Week Seven: M Sounds (ま、ミ、メ、モ、ム) Week Eight: R Sounds (ら、り、れ、ろ、る) Week Nine: W Y N Sounds (わ、を、や、ゆ、よ、ん) Week Ten: Review and Reading Summary

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Licenciatura desde University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
I have been speaking Japanese for over 10 years and teaching Japanese classes to kids and adults for over 5 years. I graduated from the University of Michigan's 2-year Intensive Japanese Immersion Course with communicative competence in reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji, and have lived and worked in Tokyo. Japan is an amazing country filled with history, natural beauty, and incredible food, and I have so many experiences and pictures from my time there to share with you in class! I have been teaching Japanese virtually for the past 3 years, and I love finding new and creative ways to make virtual learning fun!
