¿Qué es el deslizamiento de verano? El deslizamiento de verano es la tendencia de los estudiantes a perder parte de los avances en lectura que lograron durante el año escolar. Pero, ¿cuándo tienes tiempo para asegurarte de que están leyendo? Quiero ayuda con eso. #CONFIANZA

What is Summer Slide? “Summer slide” is the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year. Research shows that students that do not read over the summer fall behind an average of 2 months in reading during the summer. And, summer slide is cumulative, with these learning losses building up each summer. Reading just 4 to 6 books over the summer has the potential to prevent a decline in reading achievement scores from the spring to the fall, so even small steps are very beneficial.

When children select reading materials themselves and read for enjoyment, they receive the most gains in reading achievement, including better reading comprehension, fluency, writing style, vocabulary, spelling, and grammatical development. Also, the longer that this free voluntary reading is practiced, the more consistent and positive the results.

So that is my intention for this class, to give students the opportunity to read for enjoyment while being monitored and guided for fluency and comprehension with me. If needed, I can even do a little point in time interventions. I have a wide variety of books and access to many more. I will list below books and the interest levels that I have immediate access to. If you want me to read with your child, but there is a book they want to read that isn't on my list, I will do my best to get it if I'm given enough time. If you need to know a book's reading level, please message me for more information. I can easily look it up for you.

Most of these books will take longer that 3 class sessions. If you want to schedule more session to read, I can send a private link to extend our time.

Arkansas Certificado de Docencia en Educación elemental
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me.

I live in Arkansas with my husband. We have 2 wonderful children but we are empty nesters. They have grown and flown our nest. I have been officially teaching for 30 years, but my mother owned a preschool/day care center as I was growing up and my summer job was always there. So it is safe to say, I have been around kids and/or teaching kids my whole life. I also taught Sunday School for about 15 years.

I have a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Lyon College and earned my Masters of Science in Education from Arkansas State University. I earned this degree while teaching full time.

I am also National Board Certified in Early to Middle Grades Language Arts. Gaining this certification made me a better, more reflective teacher. It helped me to understand how to teach the whole child and not just the curriculum. It changed me as a teacher.

My current position is an Instructional Facilitator for an elementary school with grades K-3. I spend most of my days helping other teachers implement effective teaching strategies and understanding their class data to plan instruction. I am also trained in identifying students with characteristics of Dyslexia and planning their interventions. This training solidified my thoughts on how all students learn differently. With this job comes other duties that are too many to list. I love every minute of it.

My philosophy of teaching is to teach the whole child and understand that every child is different and learns in different ways. I like to get to know the students I teach, even if it is for a short time, so I can make their learning experience fun and engaging.

I am very passionate about building a foundation for reading and comprehending. Most of the classes I teach will be based on that premise. I want to teach children how to decode words which will give them the ability to be able dive deep into a text and enjoy it to the fullest. All readers struggle at some point, so knowing how to crack the code on decoding will allow them to have the confidence to work through it and keep reading.

I also love reading aloud with and to children. Therefore, I have created a series of classes centered around STE(A)M. These classes involve a read aloud and a STEM challenge. Integrating subject ares with a read aloud is one of my niches.

Aside from all the teaching, I love to read. I read a lot of children's books and young adult novels to keep up with the kids at school, but I love a good mystery! I love to watch sports and am an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. Go Hogs!
