Let's sip tea and draw Rainbow Friends to celebrate our global community. This class serves as a way for young learners to enhance their understanding of race and ethnicity in a multicultural world. Students will see rainbow friends to show that one's color of skin doesn't limit one's friendships. Rainbow Friends are characters created by Teacher MoMo to celebrate Martin Luther King's promotion of diversity/integration. Rainbow Friends enjoy learning about different cultures because the girls are different ethnicities. These friends see different as good and want to celebrate the diversity of our global community . Students of different drawing abilities are able to enjoy this class as the characters are drawn using shapes, letters and lines. And, Why tea? I am a tea lover. As a former small tea house owner, I know tea can be relaxing and create enjoyable moments in life. Also tea is international and a great way to explore countries in a fun and flavorable way. The class will begin with a quick talk of the "Tea of the Week." Usually, the tea's country of origin will be highlighted. Next, students will look at the sample drawing that I will have created prior to class. This will serve as the model for drawing 6 rainbow colored friends. Students will draw and color 3 of the 6 girls in class. As the teacher, I will guide students to create a unique drawing that reflects their personalities. NOTE: In the drawing, the girls will wear different color dresses and have different color skin tones; students and parents should agree to this coloring style prior to class, ** if only one student class, the class will be 45 minutes.ju Class Rules: 1.) All students will be muted during class. 2.) Students should raise their hands and wait to be called upon. 3.) Students will be respectful of others and respectful of differences among the students. 4.) Students should be kind to one another and use polite language. For example, they should say, "Oh, that's different" and not "You look silly." Class Format: 1. Tea of the Day & Country Origin 2. Review of Rainbow Friend drawing & job 3 Drawing and coloring of 3 Rainbow Friends 4. Optional Homework : complete the Rainbow Friends by drawing 3 more.

As a teacher and person of color, I regularly have to discuss race, ethnicity and diversity. In the classroom, I regularly work with students who have had limited interactions with a black person (I have taught English in South Korea, Japan, Ecuador, Chile, Costa Rica and the USA. I have been teaching Chinese children online for more than 4 years.)
Lastly, I have a BA in Sociology from UCLA in Los Angeles. I have traveled to more than 30 countries..
With a combination of real life experiences and cultural studies in college, I am eager to share the beauty of our diverse global community through drawings of my original characters, Rainbow Friends.
