This class will teach basic physics concepts by having students build projects. On Tuesdays the students will learn the physics behind the project and ideas on how to construct the project. Then they will have time to collect their materials. On Thursday we will review the project and students will use the rest of their time to construct. We will discuss the parameters that the students must operate within and safety concerns of each project as well as tips and materials necessary. If time permits we well also analyze the results of the previous challenge. Students may have an optional one page report to complete if so desired. I encourage students to be creative and use household items. Reuse and recycle objects. Be creative with their choice of materials. Week 1: Tuesday, April 11th- Session 1: What is Physics and Engineering? How to build a Cantilever (materials-spaghetti or straws, tape) Thursday, April 13th-Session 2: Construction of the Cantilever Week 2: Tuesday, April 18th-Session 3: Newton's Third Law -How to build a Balloon Race Car (materials-cardboard, scissors, 3 straws, tape, a balloon, something to be used as wheels such as old CD's, bottle caps etc...) Thursday, April 20th- Session 4: Build the Balloon Race Car Week 3: Tuesday, April 25th -Session 5: Sound- How to build a speaker for a phone (materials- scissors, tape, plastic or styrofoam cups, paper towel or toilet paper roll) Thursday, April 27th- Session 6: Build a speaker for a phone Week 4: Tuesday, May 2nd-Session 7: Air Pressure- How to build a vortex cannon (materials- scissors, tape, a balloon, two different sizes of cups of some kind [plastic, styrofoam, paper], a piece of paper Thursday, May 4th-Session 8: Build a vortex cannon
