Experiencia de clase

The content of this class is flexible based on each individual student's learning needs. Typical goals for students at this level include:
Reinforcing bow hold
Reinforcing left-hand position
Reading and recognizing key signatures G, D, C, & A Major
Strengthening the left-hand fourth finger
Tunneling left-hand fingers
Developing tone and intonation
Learning how to tune your instrument

If students are coming into my lessons from a previous teacher, we will continue to use their previous method books before being recommended to a new method or two. Popular method books that I may suggest at this stage of learning include up to two of the following (based on student's needs):
Essential Elements book 1
Suzuki Volume 1
Suzuki Volume 2
Music by Black Composers Volume 1
All for Strings book 1
or excerpts of my own method book which I am still in the process of creating

Lista de útiles escolares
The student will need their own violin and bow (either rent or own). I highly recommend ordering from sharmusic.com
Reputable brands include Franz Hoffman or Eastman violins. Be sure to order the right size. If you need help sizing your student, let me know and I will help you.

Additional supplies include:
Rosin
Music Stand (or somewhere to prop up the music)
Tuner/Metronome (either as an external device, or a free app such as Tuner Lite, GuitarTuna, SoundBrenner, etc.)
Either a Metallic Sharpie or Four Small Stickers (half-inch or smaller) to mark finger placements

Students are also expected to own their own method books. The total of books is estimated to be $10-25 if the student does not already have them. Come to your lesson with any books you are currently using. When we agree that you have outgrown or graduated from that book, I will recommend some new books for purchase.

Hi, my name is Ms. Caitlin. I have been teaching private music lessons since 2011. My primary instrument is the violin, but I also play the piano and other string instruments. I have a Master of Music with a major in violin performance from Memorial University of Newfoundland. I also hold a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education from Stetson University, and I have an active teaching license in Florida for K-12 Music. While the violin is my primary instrument, I also teach string orchestra and piano. Growing up, I was classically trained, but I also play other genres including fiddle, contemporary, and worship, all in addition to playing in my regional symphony orchestra.

I believe that music is for everyone, and my role as a teacher is to help guide the student towards their own goals and successes. I am open to hearing a student's personal interests and questions to guide our learning process.

When I am not playing music, I enjoy hiking, rock climbing, and crafting. While I have recently lived in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, I now live in Connecticut and teach in a classroom full-time.

*** Please be patient when it comes to messages. As I teach a full-time job in addition to Outschool, I will not be able to reply instantly.***

If you don’t see a section of a class at a time that works for you, please send me a schedule request. If you are interested in one of my classes listed outside of your learner’s age bracket, message me about the possibility of creating a class at a suitable age. That said, the youngest I am comfortable teaching online violin is age 7, and the youngest online piano students that I will teach is age 5.
