Your written communication will often be the first impression you give someone in college and in the workplace. It is the key to your future -- so master it now with individualized attention. Parents should expect to supply a list of topics/issues that they would like to see addressed in tutoring. These might include: sentence structure, brainstorming/organization, paragraph/essay composition, grammatical issues (incomplete or run-on sentences, punctuation, and capitalization), and guided writing (a school assignment that we work on jointly, for example). Following each tutoring session, the parent will be supplied with a brief overview of the topics covered as well as an analysis of their learner's progress in those areas. My passion -- as well as my professional background -- is writing. Professionally, I hold a B.A. in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I've been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. I've also taught writing and literature classes to students of all ages and abilities.
On a personal note, I have homeschooled all five of my children and taught them all to read and write... and with each it has been a different experience! What's easy for one child is not easy for another.
