25 minutos horas de clase por semanaTarea
2-4 horas por semana. Daily practice and listening between lessons is expected. The length of practice will vary greatly depending on the individual learner and what level repertoire they are currently learning. Practice assignments will be based on what skills and repertoire have been covered during the most recent lessons. Listening assignments prepare the learner for future repertoire and assist in improving already learned repertoire. Listening assignments should be included during practice time on a daily basis.Evaluación
Since the class is one-on-one, assessment is informal and happens throughout each exercise and activity we do during the lesson. The lesson will typically begin with the student performing the repertoire and exercises that were assigned for practice during the previous lesson.Experiencia de clase
On-going private lessons are ideal for either learners who have completed my 2-part Introduction to the Recorder group class or learners who would simply prefer a one-on-one setting to begin learning the recorder. These lessons are based in the Suzuki approach to the recorder. Through the Suzuki approach, the focus will be on developing playing skills on the instrument. Active listening, teacher modelling, and playing by ear will be used to teach skills and repertoire. Lessons are very interactive. It is my goal for your child to interact with their instrument as much as possible. Repetition is approached through simple games when possible, especially with younger learners. I strive for our lessons together to be as fun and enjoyable as possible. Please note that it is necessary for your learner to have beginning to intermediate 3-piece Quality Plastic/Resin Soprano Recorder that uses the Baroque Fingering system (not the German fingering system) for these classes. Please refer to the recommended instruments in the class supply list below, as recorders can vary greatly in quality and construction from brand to brand. If you already own a recorder, please reach out to me via a message to ensure that the recorder you have will be appropriate for these lessons. Learners will also need to purchase the Suzuki Recorder School Method Book and accompanying recordings. We will determine which level of the Suzuki Recorder School Method is needed during our first lesson together, so this item should not be purchased prior to your child's first class. In each class, we will address topics such as: Tone and articulations Embouchure and instrument carriage Expanding the number of pitches Learning new repertoire Reviewing and perfecting previously learned repertoire

Orientación para padres
Learners may need parental support with practice between classes.
Supplementary guided practice videos may be assigned depending on the learner's individual needs. These videos are made available via private YouTube links. While they are marked as "made for children" when uploaded to YouTube, parents should determine the level of monitoring their learner may need while using the YouTube website. If you are uncomfortable with your learner using YouTube, please notify me during our first class together so that an alternative may be determined.
Lista de útiles escolares
Required Instrument: Beginning to Intermediate 3-piece Quality Plastic/Resin Soprano Recorder (Baroque/English Fingering). Please be aware that some recorders also come in a "German fingering" system, but do not purchase a "German fingering system" recorder. Recommendations for instruments are listed below. - Acceptable - Aulos 903 Soprano Recorder - approx. $5 + shipping - Good - Yamaha 302B Soprano Recorder - approx. $18 + shipping - Best - Yamaha 401B Soprano Recorder - approx. $25 + shipping *Please note: many very inexpensive recorders are poorly constructed and will make the process of learning to play frustrating and/or impossible. If you already have a recorder, or are purchasing a recorder different from these listed above, please let me know via a private so we can evaluate if the recorder is well-made, and will serve your learner's needs in this class. *It is also important that the recorder is a 2-piece or 3-piece recorder so that we can work on the head joint alone. A 3-piece recorder is preferred so that we are able to rotate the foot-joint to align with your child's right pinkie when they advance to covering the bottom set of tone holes as they advance. Required Method Book: The Suzuki Recorder School Method Book - approx. $10 The Suzuki Recorder School Recordings - approx. $9 (downloadable mp3s) or approx. $16 (CD) *We will determine which level of the Suzuki Recorder School Materials should be purchased as part of your learner's first class. Please also note that the Suzuki Recorder School Recordings include 2 levels in each collection Other basic materials: Small ribbon, light-weight scarf, or tissue Blue painter's tape Straw (wide straws, such as McDonald's straws work best) and ziplock bag to keep straw clean when not in use. Space: Students should be taking class in a space where they are able to stand and move their body. Standing helps promote better playing posture.
