Drum and percussion instruments are very diverse which is what makes them so much fun! You can literally play any style of music that you desire.

My private drum and percussion lessons are customized to each individual students needs and wants while still remaining focused on the key fundamentals (technique, reading and timing) for each percussion instrument to ensure that the student is progressing at a good pace. 

If a student is just starting out then I recommend focusing on the snare drum at first. It is much easier to learn proper technique, how to read and keep time on one drum before expanding on to a full drum set or mallets. 

If a student has experience on the snare and is playing drum set then I can help them expand their knowledge through independence exercises, learning their favorite songs and exploring different styles of music (jazz, rock, funk, latin, New Orleans, etc.).

I teach 2 and 4 mallet technique on the marimba, xylophone and bells. Mallets open up an entirely different world for drummers by allowing them to play melodies from popular songs of choice to Bach transcriptions. 

Many of my students just want to have fun learning an instrument and playing their favorite songs, some students play percussion with various groups and a few have gone on to major in music at some of the finest colleges in the country including the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University and Princeton University.
