Hi! In the class we will meet for 4 weeks for 3 days / week to learn and practice American Sign Language. The basics of American Sign Language will be taught and we will practice using American Sign Language in conversations. Here is a break down of the 4 weeks.                              Week 1- Introductions- What is American Sign Language? Why do you want to learn American Sign Language. We will practice the ASL Alphabet and using the letters to finger spell- We will start to practice how to spell with our fingers. We will learn how to count to 10 and sign the days of the week. Learners will be introduced to how to sign I like , I don’t like and my favorite for next weeks introduction to signing “All about me”. We will use an all about me sheet to learn how to sign our favorite things.     Week 2- We will build on to what we have learned and practiced in week one and we will start to learn and practice the first 2 themes on the all about me sheet- Colors and our favorite colors and food and drinks and our favorite food and drinks.                   
Week 3- We will continue to build and practice what we have learned from week 2. We will learn and practice how to sign  the next themes on the All about me sheet - “Animals and Sports and Hobbies”.                                       
Week 4- We will learn how to sign about “Family and Friends” We will recap what we have learned and the last class will be an ASL Jeopardy game using the Vocabulary from the themes we have practiced over the 4 weeks.             This is a breakdown of what we will learn. To explain a little bit how we will learn. The class is structured with a lot of practicing the signs together.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn how to sign basic everyday signs and be able to use them in conversation. Learners will be able to sign that they are learning to sign. They will learn to sign their names, days of the week, the ASL alphabet and using those letters to finger spell. They will learn how to sign the topics on the All about me sheet- their favorite color, food and drinks, sports and hobby, animal and about family and friends. They will learn how to sign all about these topics.

I post practice sheets that you are welcomed to print out if you would like to follow along and write any notes of how to sign on the paper. This is completely optional and most practice is hands on and I share all practice over the screen.

I have been studying ASL for 14 years. I have my Bachelors degree in science from Towson University ( Maryland). I continued my education for ASL Interpreting Training in Md and completed my training at Rowan College in New Jersey. I have my certificate for Interpreter Training and 3 years experience interpreting in a school setting. I instructed a signing program for a year at an early learning center for children ages 2-6.
