1 hora por semana. The homework will be to complete the drawing or exercise started in the session and share it beginning of next class for review. Student will assess where they were most successful & what they struggled with the most. This will help me adjust future lessons to review some concepts, try it another way and move on to new ones.Evaluación
Casual assessment is done every week at the beginning of class. I will supply student with a check list so they can also self-assess. Self assessment is generally how most professional visual artists work.Experiencia de clase
What kind of drawings or themes inspire your artist? Being able to express an idea, vision or tell a visual story is a wonderfully satisfying skill to have for creative types. I believe anyone can learn these skills, and have fun doing so. The first lesson begins with the student showing me their drawings (8-10) so I can assess what level they are at, and what is the desired area(s) of growth. The remaining time for the first class would be spent on a few fundamental concepts in art (determining eye level for example) followed with related in-class exercises. After introduction to a few basics first (that will benefit any drawing style or theme), the student will tell me what topic(s) they want to dedicate the lessons to; some examples may be: Fantasy, steampunk, science fiction, history (drawing historical figures or events) still life, animals (actual or mythical) figure study, caricature, portraiture, or just drawing whatever they want that week (with direction offered). If your student would like to explore a theme such as the history of armour or ancient Egypt, we could probably fill a sketch book dedicated to that. I will plan lessons and exercises for their topic to improve their drawings. Styles can be realism, cartoon or somewhere in-between (stylized). We can alternate between styles as we go. For students who also like story telling, they may want create a comic book, graphic novel or children's book. This is something that could be worked on over a number of weeks, progressing into a finished story. MEDIA: We'll try out a variety; drawing pens, graphite pencils, ink and charcoal pencil to discover what they like. This class does not offer instruction for acrylic painting or pastels. We can explore other options for colour (ink dyes, water colour or coloured pencils). While all classes are taught using traditional tools, the student is free to use digital like ProCreate (I do not offer instruction on this, however). Introduction to drawing fundamentals like line, tone, depth, composition, and perspective will be woven into their chosen themes. For example, if they want to create a visual library of mythical creatures, they will learn how to refine their dragon drawing by using cross-contour lines and depth. My teaching method is to start with simple exercises to build confidence. These exercises are proceeded with live demonstration / short discussion and slides. Then we begin to outline a larger project that will likely spill into homework, but we will have started it already in the class and “mapped it out” This overall teaching pattern may stray from time-to-time depending on the topic of the day. *Please refrain from eating or drinking during class. This keeps art supplies from co-mingling with food, is less messy and is common practise for an art studio - Thank you!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
After receiving my diploma in Visual Communications at a Canadian art college (four year program) many years ago, I began my career as an illustrator. My work has appeared in a wide variety of publications, including five children’s books.
I also recently taught university level illustration and Design Drawing for seven years. These courses covered the fundamentals of academic drawing, including perspective and figure drawing with live models. Students at the university (whether majoring in fine art or design/photography in their second year and beyond) were required to take drawing fundamental classes.
