Now more than ever students want to learn about microbiology - the study of microscopic organisms. We will explore this world we can't see in this five-week class. Students will learn about bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes. We will also learn how the human body fights off infections. We will view videos, photos, and models plus have a class discussion about what we are learning. Weekly curriculum: Week 1: Cells and cell structures /We will make Interactive Cell Worksheets Week 2: Cellular Functions / Demonstration Lab Week 3: DNA and Genetics / No Lab Week 4: DNA and Genetics Lab Week 5: Bacteria/ We will do a bacteria and fungus experiment (Note: This experiment will last a week. We will view the results in Week 3.) Week 6: Fungi - Yeasts and Molds / We will conduct a yeast experiment Week 7: Viruses/ We will conduct a study on the spread of viruses Week 8: Human Immune Response / We will conduct an immune system experiment Supplies for each class (Note: You will only need the supplies for that week's class): Week 1: Week 1 Printouts, glue, tape, scissors, markers or crayons or colored pencils Week 2: Annette the Teacher will perform a Demonstration Lab during the class, please have Week 2 Printouts for the class Week 3: No Lab Week 4: Week 5: 3 slices of bread (Note: Non-preserved bread works best.
