Do you love everything about Ancient Egypt? Come spend time in Ancient Egypt in this interactive class We will explore the lives of the Ancient Egyptians - how they lived, what they ate, how they dressed, and more. We will learn how mummies were made and how the pyramids were built. We will learn to read and write hieroglyphics. During class, we will watch a short movie and then do a fun project related to that day's lessons.

Every class will include short movies and a hands-on activity.

Our schedule will be:

Day 1: Ancient Egypt and the Gods/ We will make a Bastet Figure
Day 2: Pharaohs and Pyramids/ We will make a Pyramid
Day 3: Temples and Mummies / We will make a Mummy
Day 4: Life in Ancient Egypt / We will make a modern version of an Ancient Egyptian Dessert (no cooking required)
Day 5: Hieroglyphics and History / We will make "papyrus paper" and write our names in Hieroglyphics

I encourage children to participate fully in my classes. Class projects are designed to be appropriate for this age range. Some children may need assistance. You know your children and their skill level. If you think they will need assistance, you are welcome to assist with the project. We will start the project 20-25 minutes into the class.

Materials needed for this class:

Day 1: Two empty toilet paper tubes, glue, acrylic or Tempera Paints - any colors you like, and paintbrush (and a cup of water and some paper towels), a black marker, safety scissors
Day 2: Eight straws, 4-8 pipe cleaners, three copies of the Pyramid Printout on the class page, crayons, markers, or chalk pastels, clear tape, safety scissors (Note: We will be cutting the straws, adult assistance may be needed.)
Day 3: 1 plastic disposable spoon, Aluminum foil, White tissue paper or napkins or paper towels or toilet paper, white glue
Day 4: Bread, honey, softened butter or margarine - optional dried fruit, dates, figs, and nuts sliced into small bits, bowl for mixing, spoon or fork, attached recipe on the class page
Day 5: 2-3 sheets of white paper, brown or yellow acrylic or Tempera paint, paintbrush, a cup of water, black markers

We may run up to five minutes long.
Note: We will be using bread and honey and butter for our recipe in week 4. If you have allergies, you can use substitutes for the recipe. Dates, nuts, figs, or dried fruit are optional.

She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. Famous Artists" art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.

Annette also has experience working with Special Needs children. She is Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs. She also has worked with children with ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact Annette so she can work with you and your child.

Annette first became interested in ancient cultures in the 1970's when the "King Tut" craze swept the nation. She continued to study the ancient cultures of Persia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, China, and others in college. Some years later, she taught herself to read Latin so she could read the works of Gaius Julius Caesar in their original form. She has taught ancient history as a part of her homeschool curriculum and developed the Big History series as a way of teaching her autistic daughter history. She has been certified to teach OER's Big History Project including ancient civilizations.
