About me:
_______________________
I'm from Falls Church, VA and currently live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I hold a BS in Marketing and Business Management from Georgetown University in Washington, DC and an MA in Higher & Professional Education from University College London's Institute of Education (the world's top ranked education institute since 2014 by the QS World University Rankings).
I've taught on Outschool for 6+ years and teach 35+ different courses in a variety of formats and subjects, including nature, social studies, and English.
My 15+ year career in education also includes teaching students with intellectual special needs, teaching ESOL, camp counseling, running a community center in Costa Rica, running extra-curricular activities at an International School, helping students apply to college, and co-founding an EdTech startup that teaches coding.
I've also coached both football/soccer and basketball for 10+ years at youth and competitive high school levels (boys and girls) and hold a US Soccer Federation National License.
Finally, I'm a student, too, learning Dutch!
These experiences empower me to teach a diverse range of subjects, empathize and communicate with students, and create an environment where they can grow.
I look forward to learning with you!
Teaching Philosophy:
_______________________
I'm adaptable because no two classes, students, or learning styles are identical. However, I lean towards basing my live classes around interactivity, inquiry, and discussion, to empower students and teach real-life social skills. I find that they have more fun and retain information best when they are active participants in the learning process.
For these reasons, I tend not to force students to speak only when given permission, unless necessary. There is no pressure for students to participate, though, and they are welcome to passively absorb. Students who prefer a 'one-way' style of lecturing may prefer my Flex Classes.
Fees/Refunds:
_______________________
I believe that education is a basic right, so no student should be 'priced out' of a good education. None of my classes are taught at a premium above Outschool's minimum recommendation, but if you feel that price is a barrier to a class you want to take, please let me know and we can arrange something. My courses follow the most flexible refund settings on Outschool, and I'm happy to give refunds for any reasonable case.
Scheduling:
_______________________
If you use Outschool's "request another time" feature and I don't respond, that's because the request doesn't work for me, and I don't have any similar, alternative classes to offer.
Feel free to message me with any other questions!
