We will be following the UK national curriculum for science KS3 (Pre-GCSE) adding to our knowledge every week, starting with the Space topic (week starting 8th Jan 2024), then moving through the topics in the following order; Energy (1st Mar) , Matter (17th May) , Forces (14th June) Sound (6th Sep), Magnets and Electricity (4th Oct) and Light (22nd Nov). This will mean that by the time we have finished all of the topics, the entire content for Physics KS3 will be fully taught, as can be seen from the planning, it will take 1 year to complete the course. Dates for Space topic: 1. 12th Jan- the night sky 2. 19th Jan- Seasons and day and night 3. 26th Jan- Light years 4. 2nd Feb- Re-arranging equations 5. 9th Feb- The moon 6. 16th Feb- Eclipse 7. 23rd Feb- Mass and Weight Dates for Energy topic: 1. 1st Mar- Energy stores 2. 8th Mar- Energy transfers 3. 15th Mar- Heating and thermal equilibration 4. 22nd Mar- Fuels and energy resources 5. 29th Mar- Power ratings !!Easter Break (5th and 12th Apr)!! 6. 19th Apr- Domestic fuels and costs 7. 26th Apr- Conservation of energy (model lesson) 8. 3rd May- Simple machines and work done Dates for matter topic: 1. 10th May- Physical and chemical changes 2. 17th May- States of matter and changes of states 3. 24th May- Density 4. 31st May- Brownian motion and diffusion Dates for Forces topic: 1. 7th June- Types of forces and Balanced/ unbalanced 2. 14th June- Effects of forces on objects and Hookes Law 3. 21st June- Work done and Moments and levers 4. 28th June- Speed 5. 5th July- Distance time graphs 6. 12th July- Acceleration and relative motion 7. 19th July- Pressure in liquids and gases 8. 26th July- Parachutes lesson !!Summer Break- 2nd Aug- 30th Aug!! Dates for Sound topic: 1. 6th Sep- Transverse and longitudinal waves 2. 13th Sep- Sound and energy transfer 3. 20th Sep- Pitch and Frequency 4. 27th Sep- Detecting sound, Ultrasound and echolocation Dates for Magnets and Electricity topic: 1. 4th Oct- Magnets 2. 11th Oct- Electromagnets 3. 18th Oct- Symbols and circuits 4. 25th Oct- Current 5. 1st Nov- Potential difference 6. 8th Nov- Resistance 7. 15th Nov- Static electricity Dates for Light topic: 1. 22nd Nov- Light and the eye 2. 29th Nov- Mirrors and reflection 3. 6th Dec- Refraction 4. 13th Dec- Spectrum and dispersion 5. 20th Dec- Colour Each topic will have a mini practical/ model building task for a more relaxed and fun lesson. Students who start later than the topic start date should be able to catch up as we frequently recap previous content as the start of each lesson, if the student is struggling to catch up from this, please let me know and I can send over some revision style resources. Knowledge builds up throughout the topic, however students should be able to start a new topic with no prior knowledge. Lessons are fairly structured and will include a mixture of individual tasks, group activities for collaborative learning by following a PowerPoint and working through various worksheets. We often use quizzes, interactive whiteboards and games. It is useful for students to have a general knowledge of science but this is not entirely necessary, as I can adapt lessons as we go along for the group!
Metas de aprendizaje
The aims of the UK national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:
• develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology.
• develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
• are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
As an experienced teacher, I am able to support a variety of SEN and LBQT needs of my students and will tailor lessons to support them to achieve.
Orientación para padres
Any mini practicals have all been risk assessed and have very low/ no risks associated, however it is expected that all practicals/ experiments are conducted with adult supervision (if required).
We will be using various quizzes and online resources throughout the lessons, the use of these resources is for either on-screen sharing or student self-assessment, so no gamer tags need to be submitted (please see materials for more information on these resources).
Lista de útiles escolares
Mini practicals include items commonly found around the home.
