We will be following the UK national curriculum for science KS3 (Pre-GCSE) adding to our knowledge every week, starting with the Earth and atmosphere topic (starting 11th Jan 2024), then moving through the topics in the following order; Particle model (starting 29th Feb), The periodic table (starting 18th Apr), Atomic model and Mixtures (30th May), Acids and Alkali (starting 5th Sep), Metals and Materials (starting 3rd Oct) and Chemical reactions (starting 7th Nov). This will mean that by the time we have finished all of the topics, the entire content for Chemistry KS3 will be fully taught, this will take 1 year (as can be seen below). Dates for Earth and the atmosphere lessons: 1. 11th Jan- the structure of the earth 2. 18th Jan- the atmosphere 3. 25th Jan- Fossil fuels 4. 1st Feb- Renewable energy 5. 8th Feb- Causes and effects of global warming 6. 15th Feb- Carbon cycle 7. 22nd Feb- Recycling and reusing Dates for Particle model topic: 1. 29th Feb- Particles and states of matter 2. 7th Mar- Changes of states 3. 14th Mar- Diffusion 4. 21st Mar- Elements 5. 28th Mar- Pure substances !!Easter break 4th and 11th Apr!! Dates for Periodic table topic: 1. 18th Apr- Metals and non-metals 2. 25th Apr- Groups and periods 3. 2nd May-History of the periodic table 4. 9th May- Elements and compounds 5. 16th May- Chemical symbols and formulae 6. 23rd May- Conservation of mass Dates for Atomic models and mixtures topic: 1. 30th May- Particles in an atom 2. 6th Jun- History of the atom 3. 13th Jun- Mixtures 4. 20th Jun- Dissolving and filtration 5. 27th Jun- Crystalisation and evaporation 6. 4th Jul- Distillation 7. 11th Jul- Chromatography 8. 18th Jul- Hazard symbols 9. 25th Jul- Scientific enquiry key terms !!Summer break 1st Aug- 29th Aug!! Dates for Acid and alkali topic: 1. 5th Sep- Acids and alkali 2. 12th Sep- Indicators and pH 3. 19th Sep- Neutralisation 4. 26th Sep- Making salts Dates for Metals and materials topic: 1. 3rd Oct- Properties of metal 2. 10th Oct- Carbonates 3. 17th Oct- Oxidation 4. 24th Oct- Alloys 5. 31st Oct- Ceramics, polymers and composites Dates for Chemical reactions topic: 1. 7th Nov- Physical and chemical change 2. 14th Nov- Exothermic and endothermic 3. 21st Nov- Combustion and fuels 4. 28th Nov- Reactivity series 5. 5th Dec- Thermal decomposition 6. 12th Dec- Displacement 7. 19th Dec- Extracting metals from ore Each topic will have a mini practical/ model building task for a more relaxed and fun lesson. Students who start later than the topic start date should be able to catch up as we frequently recap previous content as the start of each lesson, if the student is struggling to catch up from this, please let me know and I can send over some revision style resources. Knowledge builds up throughout the topic, however students should be able to start a new topic with no prior knowledge. Lessons are fairly structured and will include a mixture of individual tasks, group activities for collaborative learning by following a PowerPoint and working through various worksheets. We often use quizzes, interactive whiteboards and games. It is useful for students to have a general knowledge of science but this is not entirely necessary, as I can adapt lessons as we go along for the group!
Metas de aprendizaje
The aims of the UK national curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils:
• develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of chemistry.
• develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
• are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

Necesidades de aprendizaje
As an experienced teacher, I am able to support a variety of SEN and LBQT needs of my students and will tailor lessons to support them to achieve.
Orientación para padres
Any mini practicals have all been risk assessed and have very low/ no risks associated, however it is expected that all practicals/ experiments are conducted with adult supervision (if required).
We will be using various quizzes and online resources throughout the lessons, the use of these resources is for either on-screen sharing or student self-assessment, so no gamer tags need to be submitted (please see materials for more information on these resources).
Lista de útiles escolares
Mini practicals include items commonly found around the home.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Fuera de EE. UU. Certificado de Docencia en Ciencia
Licenciatura en Ciencia desde Bangor University
Since 2016, I have trained as a Secondary Science teacher in the UK, gained qualified teacher status and have been working in various secondary schools around Cambridgeshire, teaching English as an additional language in Science and SEN students throughout my teaching career.
