Precálculo: Trimestre 3

This is the third quarter of Pre-Calculus.  This course is rigorous and should only be taken by students who have successfully completed Algebra 2 and the first semester of Pre-Calc.  This class is best for self-motivated students who like math who will work hard both in and outside of class.  In this quarter we will focus on matrices, conic sections, sequences, and series.

Graphing calculators will be utilized (we will use desmos.com which is a free resource).

Week 1:  Intro to Matrices, Determinants
Week 2:  Systems with Matrices
Week 3:  Partial Fraction Decomposition
Week 4:  Circles & Ellipses
Week 5:  Hyperbolas & Parabolas
Week 6:  Arithmetic & Geometric Sequences
Week 7:  Arithmetic & Geometric Series
Weeks 8-9:  End-of-quarter review

Material will be presented in a straightforward "I do, we do, you do" approach.  Students will first see a detailed example before working problems with instructor guidance and then solving problems on their own.  The students will be given opportunities to try the skills in class with instructor guidance and will be assigned practice problems for after class.  Required homework assignments will take approximately 45 minutes to complete daily (2-4 hours per week).  Answer keys will be posted of the homework assignments so students may assess their own progress.  

Optional quizzes/tests will also be assigned throughout the course.  A final grade can be assigned at parent/guardian request.
