Grado de EE. UU. 5 - 8
In this course, students will learn, review and practice all crucial and required topics of the pre-algebra middle school math, including integers, expressions, variables, radicals, statistics, probability, geometry, functions, polynomials and more. This class is broken into 14 chapters of pre-algebra. Each chapter consists of 5-8 subsections. Each 45-minute class will focus on one to two subsections. ***This class can used as a full curriculum class for homeschoolers, and it can also be used as a full-curriculum or review class for any student. Topics and lessons will be taught, practiced and reviewed in class. ***Homework and review material will be provided after class, but it is optional. However, I strongly recommend completing the extra review material outside of class. This class will contain knowledge checks in the form of quizzes and/or tests. Students will complete these activities in class through Quizizz. Students do not need to create an account or log in to use this resource. Please see the Parental Guidance section for more specific information. ***The teacher provides a set of guided notes for every section of every chapter. These are PDFs that should be printed before class and brought to class. Alternatively, students can use a notebook to write down the notes from the class. At the beginning of class, the students and teacher will have a discussion about the topic(s) of the week so the teacher can assess the students’ prior knowledge of the subject. Throughout the class, the teacher will introduce and teach the topic(s) using the “I Do, We Do, You Do” method. This instructional method starts with the teacher giving an example, followed by the teacher and student solving a problem or completing a task together, then finally, the student is given a problem or task to complete on his/her own, with support given as necessary. All classes will include instruction, practice and application problems (word problems). 🏫 School Year 2024-2025: Please check the syllabus tab for specific dates and topics. Chapter 1: Integers Chapter 2: Expressions Chapter 3: Basic Equations and Inequalities Chapter 4: Number Theory Chapter 5: Rational Numbers Chapter 6: Operations on Rational Numbers Chapter 7: Percents Chapter 8: Applying Equations and Inequalities Chapter 9: Relations and Functions Chapter 10: Statistics and Probability Chapter 11: Radicals Chapter 12: Geometry Chapter 13: Area and Volume Chapter 14: Polynomials Throughout the entire class, many discussion questions will be asked in order to promote critical thinking, to help the students to relate to the lesson and to introduce each topic within the lesson. This class is best for any student ages 10 to 15, or those students looking to practice the pre-algebra middle school math objectives or skills. Students do not need to know the concepts or topics of the class beforehand. We will learn and review in class. ***This course consists of 40 instructional weeks. Extra review and practiced is offered in a summer course: an 8-week review over the summer to prepare for the next level of math. ***For specific requests, such as grading, testing or other state-specific homeschool documentation requirements, please send a message to the teacher prior to first class. The class materials will be presented via Google Slides and screen shared on the teacher's screen only. Learners will need nothing outside of the Outschool Zoom classroom. The teacher may post notes or worksheets in the classroom that may need to be printed before class and brought to class. Alternatively, the student can also use a notebook and pencil to take notes.
