This course is meant for students who have completed Pre-Algebra B: Prep for Algebra I. Those who have not should read the entire course description to ensure they are prepared for it. Siblings must enroll in separate sections.

Note-taking
In the spirit of producing independent and responsible students, notes should be taken during class, especially if they have no intention of reviewing the video. A necessary part of the process of learning, this provides a reference for the student inside and outside of the classroom. Without it, classwork and homework assignments can be difficult. The goal is to ensure that the homework is done correctly the first time.  

Classwork
This will provide the needed practice for the concepts taught in the lecture. Notes should be taken to assist completing it. Help with math problems will be available from the teacher and classmates while class is in session. Questions are always welcome, even after class via messaging.

Homework
It will be assigned in each class, logged for student and parent notification, and reviewed at the next meeting. About three to six hours per week should be allotted for it. Checking work for errors before class would be wise and also reduce worry.

Daily Review
The homework will be reviewed by going over answers when class starts. Problems will be explained and reworked when mistakes occur. Any and all questions on the assignment will be allowed.

Periodic Review
Previous knowledge will be used to determine the level of competency and understanding in the subject. This may include a quiz or test. 

Teaching Style
Approachability, firmness, and patience go along with the lectures and class rules the whiteboard. Direct questions will be asked for discussion and interaction. Outschool's rules and those specific to the course will be enforced from the first day.
 
Students who are at least 14 or have an IEP that allows it can use calculators. I will respect the decisions of parents who are against using them.

While educating K-12 marginalized and underserved youth, it wasn't long before I specialized in requests for math help due to demand. That was preceded by 16 years in STEM as a test, maintenance, and repair technician specializing in electricity, electronics, instrumentation, and automation for process control and military aviation.

It’s never too late to learn something no matter what anyone else says or thinks. A student is far more than mistakes that matter less and less over time.
 
As a kid, I used to hate math because I didn't have mastery of it. My mother was terrible at it but insisted that I do better. She won. I liked how useful math became. It's been working for me ever since, and I want my students to do at least as well.
