**If you don't see a suitable section, please feel free to request a time that works for you!** In this ongoing class, students will get creative while learning about revolutionary African/Black women. Each class, learners will learn about and discuss the impact of an African/Black woman in history. Instead of lecturing and taking notes, students will take what they learn from each lesson and create a pop-up art book dedicated to that special woman. Ms. Sydney will show students different pop-up art techniques, as well as provide relevant visual aids. This is a hands-on course, not meant for students to be sitting through a lecture that they will most likely forget! Ms. Sydney will also provide supplemental learning resources after each lesson so that the student can learn more about each powerful woman. Pop-up art books are a great way for students to think through early engineering concepts and will definitely provide the students with a unique challenge each week. No class will build upon the last, so come and go as you please! Each session will begin with a discussion question. Then Ms. Sydney will give a brief overview of the particular woman's life. Learners will complete a quick interactive activity. After, Ms. Sydney will demo the specific pop-up art lesson of that week while students follow along. As the students continue in their Work Session, Ms. Sydney will discuss the woman's impact, share visual aids about her life, and/or provide primary source materials from that woman. The class breakdown will go as follows with new pop up techniques each week!: (9/5) Ella Baker (9/12) Gwendolyn Brooks (9/19) Amy Ashwood Garvey (9/26) Carlotta See you soon in this creative history class!

Scissors and glue will be used each class
The content will discuss history from a decolonized, African-centered view. This will allow the African women that we discuss to be active history makers rather than passive objects to be observed. Ms. Sydney takes care to explain historical content in an age-appropriate way that highlights the truth rather than opinion in order to allow students to form their own ideas about these concepts. Some historical topics are harsh, and brutal, but nonetheless should be discussed in an appropriate manner. Ms. Sydney will ensure that students get most questions answered during sessions and will provide extra resources for students to continue their learning on their own.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have taken multiple African History courses, African Psychology courses, and studied this material scrupulously. I've taught these difficult subjects and more to groups as young as 6 years old, and understand the process of unlearning what we were taught in public school. I seek to provide students with the tools and resources they need to think critically rather than tell them what and when to think. These classes, though mixed with art and creativity, are evidence based meaning I use text and other documents to support the concepts mentioned in sessions. If a student or parent ever have any questions, I am more than happy to answer to the best of my knowledge and can provide any materials needed for the given topics.
