There is no specific homework, but learners will need to bake their finished charms according to the directions for their specific brand of polymer clay.Evaluación
Student progress will be assessed through their classroom discussions and finished charms.Experiencia de clase
In this class, learners will explore the properties of polymer clay in order to create a charm. They will explore form, texture, and color theory to create donuts. They will learn the process of working with polymer clay, from conditioning the clay to baking it. They will add details to finish their charms using different tools to add texture. The class will begin with a discussion of what learners already know about polymer clay and sculpture. We will learn how the clay works and some methods to create colors and texture with it. We will use polymer clay to create a donut charm, adding detail with texture and color blending. We will use a variety of materials to add details to our charms, like glaze and sprinkles. I strive to make my classes as interactive as possible and use the Socratic method, with lots of discussion about what we are doing. We will end class with a discussion about what we learned and addressing any additional questions learners might have.

I have been creating polymer clay jewelry and miniatures for over a decade. My approach is to show learners the basics and then let them add their own unique spin to it to create their own design. I find that students have great success through exploring the properties of a medium and then making creative choices in how to apply those properties artistically. I have taught art in a variety of settings to a wide range of ages for nearly 20 years with sculpture as a particular area of focus.
