Mammals are classified into taxonomical groups called "orders." We'll study what traits and behaviors each order shares with the Pokémon we know and love. We will also learn how to compare and contrast these creatures when reading/listening to descriptions, examining pictures, and watching video clips of the fictional characters side by side with real mammals. Learners will become pros at using a Venn Diagram as a comparison tool, and we'll try our hand at Dichotomous Keys and Cladograms. Leaners can also try their hand at designing their own mammalian Pokémon and brainstorm how their Pokémon compares to a real mammal. This is a self-paced course, which means there is no live component. Each lesson contains one recording (each about 45 minutes long) , plus extension activities to expand your learning beyond the recording. All extension activities are optional and at the discretion of the parent. You can do one lesson per week over 12 weeks, or you can choose to move through the content more rapidly. It's up to you! Need a discount? Sure thing! All of my self-paced courses are "pay what you can afford." To get the discount you need, sign up for the full course first, then message me with the discount you would like, and I will apply a partial refund.
Metas de aprendizaje
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
♦ Explain the basics of Biological Classification Systems.
♦ Understand how DNA, fossils, and evolutionary lines are all building blocks of modern taxonomy.
♦ Describe the commonalities that all mammals share.
♦ Compare and contrast two similar creatures using a Venn Diagram.
♦ Explain the traits and behaviors of a variety of mammals of different orders.
♦ Draw a cladogram and explain its usefulness in taxonomy.
♦ Know how to use a Dichotomous Key, and how to create your own.

12 Lecciones
más de 12 semanasLección 1:
What are Mammals? What is Taxonomy?
In this lesson, we'll explore Taxonomy and Classification Systems and how they can help scientists to understand living things. We'll explore what the word "mammal" means, and what qualifications of mammals can apply to our favorite Pokémon.
Lección 2:
Primates - Monkeys, Apes, Prosimians, and Humans
What kind of monkey is Mankey? What's so special about the Pokemon Passimian? We'll explore all of your favorite primate Pokemon in this lesson.
Lección 3:
Miscellaneous Mammals
This lesson is a hodge podge of weird Mammals and the "orders" they are from. We'll compare these weird Mammals to weird Pokemon! Lesson includes the following mammal orders: Dermoptera (flying lemurs), Hyracoidae (hyraxes), Insectivora (insect-eaters), Edentata (toothless mammals), Pholidata (pangolins), Tubulidentata (aardvarks)
Lección 4:
Lions, Tigers, and Bears - in Pokémon!
Let's learn about the many, MANY Pokemon inspired by the Order Carnivora. So many, it takes two lessons to cover them! Why do they make such great Pokémon inspirations?
