POETRY PICNIC (Color/Concrete/Tetractys)

This class will let your young writers combine their love of words with their love of the visual arts. We’ll also toss in a little syllable-counting. If they don't already enjoy writing poetry, this class will ease them in through playful practice.  They'll also get to look at several examples written by others.

Day 1 – COLOR poems teach students how to describe colors through using the five senses.

Day 2 – CONCRETE poems are actually written in the shapes of poems' topics.  If the poem is about running shoes, a basketball, or a meringue pie, those will be the shapes in which the lines of words are written.  They are pictures and poems all in one!

Day 3 - TETRACTYS poems are England's answer to haiku. There is a set number of lines and syllables in this form.
