Each week of class, we will have a selected poem. See the list below for the poem for that week. Class will consist of three readings of the poem and an activity to do. First reading: We will cover any vocabulary that is unknown or partially familiar to students. Second reading: We will discuss background knowledge related to the poem as well as poetic elements such as theme, author's purpose, type of poetry, rhyme scheme, stanzas, etc... Third reading: Students will draw their interpretation of the poem as I read aloud the poem for the final time. I will also provide a copy of the poem on the screen for them to reference as they draw. We will wrap class with sharing poetry illustrations and any additional thoughts on that poem.
