***This class is as close to a full theatrical performance experience as you can get virtually. I treat this just as I would if I was directing a play in person. Please read through the entire class listing and feel free to message me if you have any questions. If you'd like a link to a previous production from this class, just ask.*** Ready to tread the boards... virtually? This advanced performance workshop is for performers interested in acting in a Shakespeare production. This hands-on experience will involve a full rehearsal and production process culminating in digital performances. Performers will not only grow their acting skills, but will also explore costuming, set, and virtual technical theater skills. Upcoming Productions: Fall ‘22: Macbeth -- Rehearsals September 9 - October 15, Livestream Performances October 21-22, 2022 What we will do in this class... … analyze the script to inform our acting choices. ... explore performance techniques and character motivations that align with the vision of the show. ... collaborate with other actors to create an entertaining and compelling production. … use our creativity to adapt theatrical concepts for a digital platform. Some Important Notes About This Class: + Actors who have not taken a class with me are welcome but should contact me before enrolling to make sure this class will be a good fit for them. + A completed permission form for the live stream is required before the first class meeting. + Please note that we may alter the class times/dates depending on the availability of the actors in the class. If you're interested in taking this class, but have some conflicts, I can probably work the schedule around your availability. Technical Requirements: + Access to a stable internet connection. + A blank wall to perform against (and/or decorate) according to set requirements. + Discrete earbuds or a quiet room to perform in. Rehearsal Process: Weekly rehearsals will be scheduled based on roles and actor availability. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided by the first cast meeting. Actors are expected to arrive on time and be ready to work at each rehearsal. Cast members will be guided to document their blocking and annotate their scripts. The full cast will be called to rehearsals the week of the performance. Actors should be prepared for full costume/set/makeup for these rehearsals. Rehearsal & Schedule: Please note, while this is listed as a 6-week class, there is an extra week for tech. Please see below. (Subject to change based on the scheduling needs of the cast. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided before the first week of class) Week 1 -- Acts 1 & 2 Week 2 -- Act 3 & 4 Week 3 -- Act 4 & 5 Week 4 -- Act 1 Run-through Week 5 -- Act 2 Run-through Week 6 -- Technical Rehearsal and Full Run. Week 7* -- Dress Rehearsals & Performance(s). (Due to the live stream, this week will be on Zoom). About My Directing Style: I love to share a vision for my shows that makes the cast inspired to perform. I dig into the text with the actors to make sure they understand what they’re saying and how to portray that emotion on stage. I ask my cast to take risks, pointing out their strengths, and pushing them to try the things that scare them the most. I’m serious about what I do, but love to have fun and embrace the messy process that is theater.
Metas de aprendizaje
This class will focus on textual analysis, memorization, upper body blocking, and facial expression. Actors will grow their acting skills while adapting their performance for prerecorded or live-stream shows. Actors who join this class will learn to assess their own strengths and areas for growth. My hope is that they will find a love for the collaboration process and a willingness to take risks on stage.

I’ve been directing youth theatre since 2009. I enjoy directing all forms of theatre, but Shakespeare is my true passion. I love creating adaptations that challenge teen actors and make Shakespeare’s work accessible to modern audiences.
